Kami band is just a powerhouse. Blew me away from the first time I heard them.
The ladies are at an important point in their career and it will be interesting to see which way they go. Some bands make the transition out of their original formats successfully, others don’t. Sometimes it depends on the band members (i.e. Gacharic Spin), sometimes on the producer (i.e. Yasutaka Nakata and his many bands). Others seem to be on the fence or going in different directions and may bite it (i.e. Band Maid).
In interviews they have recently said their latest album, well, don’t count on too much. The new song Metali is the first song of their rebirth. We’ll see.
It’s a new Kami. There are no Japanese musicians in it this year. All American. And they are more aggressive in style.
They are very closed mouthed about these things, but my guess is they folded up because in 2021 Su walked away when the contract was up, and intended to retire. So everyone moved on to other projects. Su said she never gave Babymetal a thought when she did.
Moa wasn’t ready to retire, she thought about it everyday, and showed up at Su’s house, and they started dancing together, and bam! a new Babymetal with 3 members and American band.
Go Su.
They looked so much happier on stage this time it was palpable. Amuse no longer runs the show they engaged the same firm Slipknot uses. New waters
The band I liked most that evening was Primordial. Laments could hardly sound any better
Paradise Lost were okay, but they seemed tired, their show was lacking energy.
Harakiri for the Sky were a pleasant surprise as I didn’t know them before the concert.
Omnium Gatherum, well, Finnish melodic death metal, a very subjective kind of music… While I love Amorphis, I couldn’t get into their music
Concert reviews most certainly are not an exercise I excel in
I appreciate it all the same!
Even just to know how a big batch of bands affects a person on any given night.
It’s such a subjective and mysterious ritual - taking in a live band.
And 4 such heavy and aggressive sounds one after the other - metal shows can be tough!
Glad Primordial gave a good showing.
These are all very cool bands.
Man, were they great! Easily somewhere in the top 10 of live shows I ever attended. I’d post some reviews, but the ones I was able to find are all in Dutch.
Next up: Fun Lovin’ Criminals in my home town November 16th!
