More about Henrik Linder and his true temperament bass (spoiler: it’s pink!) in this video:

Yeah, I knew this one… didn’t want to overload you with a long video (and, god forbid, SBL contents) and so chose a single song.

I guess he has more than one of those basses (as one does ). Here is another one, in a guest appearance with Jack & Owane:

Saw Rebirth Brass Band and The Wooten Brothers last night. Rebirth is always fantastic, but I gotta say, although the Wootens are amazing musicians - it’s just not my jam. Two songs in I was out. To me he’s in the Jack camp - amazing at what he does, but what he does is not for me.

Too many keys?

I think they used all keys in all songs, sometimes at the same time (at least it sounded like that).

I feel kind of the same way about… all virtuoso performers really. I don’t find it super entertaining.

Same. I’m never so impressed with a lot fast. Much rather have something more melodic.

The times I’m impressed with fast is when someone is playing multiple lines or can really background sparkle embellish without detracting.

I saw Victor play with the Flecktones, and he was fantastic. Sometimes you need someone to edit your work to get your best.

Nemophila is one of my favorite bands right now. One of the things I like is their solos are compact and never drag on. Lovebites is a good band, but just when you think their solos are done, they kick into another gear and go on some more

Stephen King says the road to hell is paved with adverbs. Maybe the road to hell is also paved with virtuosos.

One thing I hate is a drummer who does blast beats non stop. If everything is emphasized, nothing is emphasized. Give the audience space to feel what you’re doing

Which goes back to the virtuoso thing. David Gilmour is a virtuoso in part because he gives space for notes to breathe.

What you’re actually defining here is the difference between a technical virtuoso and an artist.

So, last night was Rebirth Brass Band/Wooten Brothers for me. I loved it. I am a classic rock/metal guy, and their music is pretty far and away from what I usually listen to, but no denying the music was fantastic and there was a lot of talent on display. I was not aware of how prolific all of the Wooten Brothers are, so learned a lot.

Would definitely pay to see them all again.

Tonight, as in right now as I post this, I am sitting in the YouTube theater Legacy VIP experience lounge (my GF splurged) in Los Angeles listening to Jason Richardson, the opener for the Babyklok tour.

This guy’s pretty damned good, if you like metalcore/djent type stuff. He used to be the lead guitarist for Born of Osiris.

Anyway, Babymetal is up soon, and then Dethklok. Can’t wait, so excited. Will post more as I can.

So you’re watching it Ad free? Nice

Wow, what a show. The Babymetal girls are effing firecrackers. They just don’t stop. And the band was amazing.

And Dethklok. I mean… blown away.

Great show. Just great.

  • Su-metal is getting better as a front woman

  • What kind of cardio routine do these girls have to put out that much energy and still be able to sing? Why aren’t they falling down by the end of the concert?

  • The Kami are no joke.
