Paisley is not for everyone, to be sure. But for my taste, this is not too garish or gaudy, and looks nice in the subdued colors. Of course, I can’t afford it, and it doesn’t come in a left handed version in paisley (only in sunburst, I believe), so it’s all moot!
Enjoy your new red Club when it arrives! Does it come with flats, or if not, will you swap for flats?
Hofners always come with Hofner brand flats from the factory. I’ve sent a message to the seller inquiring as to whether or not the original strings are still on it. I will most likely replace them with the flats LaBella makes for the Hofner.
Get yourself a Hofner Ignition Pro Club for $400 - add a $60 skin and some elbow grease and my math says you save $2500. Then you can afford to buy a second skin if you want to go full on gaudy British Invasion! (Just a tad ironic on a German bass).
I’ve seen selections on that site before. I don’t particularly want paisley, but thought that “Gold Label” specialty model looked nice for a short scale bass to post here. But that paisley is tasteful enough that I wouldn’t turn it down if it fell in my lap out of nowhere, even if I had to restring it for lefty, which would be sort of a shame for such an exclusive model.
The only Höfner Club Bass that comes in a left handed model is the H500/2-L-0 Club bass LH, in antique brown sunburst with nickel hardware. The right-handed version of it is currently $3,079.99 at Guitar Center, out of stock in left handed, but no doubt at least that much for it. Perhaps a LH version might be found used for a better price, who knows.
I’d be much more likely go for the Höfner Ignition Violin Bass in LH, also $400. But if we’re talking skins to put on it, I’d probably pass. The skins I like at SkinYourSkunk are:
I just can’t envision any of those on a Höfner bass, Club or Violin style (okay, the Orange Paisley design is reminiscent of the “Yellow Submarine” Beatles, or Peter Max illustrations, so might work in a way). The skin above with the flowers might look nice on my short scale black LH Ibanez miKro, though.
Wow - southpaws really do get a bad deal looking for basses? I had no idea Hofner’s LH selection was so limited.
I’m not sure I’d put a vinyl sticker on an expensive bass - but now that I think about it - I passed on a sub $100 Ibanez Talman a while back because the seafoam green just isn’t my thing:
@KenKnight,
That skin would have been great! Keep your eyes out for another bargain and go for it. Good old Robbie the Robot!

I updated my list in the " LEFT HANDED BASS INSTRUMENTS (LEFTY BASS)" thread, to add the Höfner models (which got deleted by mistake the last time I updated the post), and also added All in One (AIO) LH bass models.
I am looking at that one and a Squier Mini Bass. Any thoughts of 1 vs the other? Price point on both about the same. I am 5’3 with Hobbitt hands, a full size 34", and looking for something a bit easier to play.
Either one should do, they’re about the same setup. I have this Squier, 32" scale length and it’s pretty nice.
As far as 34" scale basses, here is a bassist I like, Mina of the band Girlfriend, who is roughly your size and self taught. She is quite good; get a smaller bass if you like, but don’t be intimidated lack of hand size. I have smaller hands too, we’re not all Josh at 6’5".
