Short Love

Nice. I’m not super familiar with squire but I know that sterling, ernie ball’s budget brand, had a lot of quality control issues for years and eventually changed countries of manufacture. Their QC is really good now, which you have to get right especially in a budget brand. Doesn’t take long for the POS label to stick, and hard to get rid of it later.

i can never figure those danelectro basses out. sometimes i think i love them, sometimes i think i hate them. they are odd. but strangely retro cool, i think.

I agree @itsratso,
They have that type of impact on me as well.
The old longhorns with their different colour schemes look both weird and interesting, I have never played one so not sure what they feel like🤔

So being the 80s metalhead that I am. I was playing around with a Jackson js1x bass and now I’m torn between getting an Ibanez mikro or the Jackson. I want a short scale to play for fun and one would be perfect for the trailer when camping. Ooh the decisions.

I can vouch for the mikro as being solid with good pickups a way. Never played the Jackson…

Another vote for the Mikro.
It really can rival a lot of more expensive basses for tone and it’s so damn light

Weirdly, the Mikro weighs the same as my TRBX604, and a pound more than my Warwick, both full scale.

You’re used to 'rays

WOW that’s interesting to know @howard

That’s assuming the 8.4 pound quote I see online is accurate. That’s 3.8kg.

For comparison,

TRBX604: 3.8kg
Rockbass Streamer LX4: 3.2kg

Probably due to wood choices. The TRBX is alder/maple, the Streamer is Carolena, and the Mikro is Poplar, which is slightly heavier.

I just saw someone claiming his Sterling Sub 34 is 11 pounds. Is that true? Ouch.

I’m thinking the Mikro will be around that weight and my SR won’t be a lot heavier.

Yeah. FWIW I just weighed my own Streamer and it was 3.6kg, about a pound more than Warwick claims

Still, very light. 200g lighter than my Yamaha or the Mikro.

I mean light is always good, but i think a shortscale needs to have a certain weight otherwise the tone might be to thin. For me its always irritating while switching between the big and the little one and when i lift them up i have to grin cause there is no difference

I think i need another one . . .

I nearly ended up with that exact colour when I was Fender shopping but my wife bought me the 34” scale P which is definitely a keeper especially after I’ve upgraded the pickups and electronics and then added an Xtender key.
I must say I found it a bit head heavy when I tried it and yet the Squier isn’t.

My problem is that my local shop doens´t have it in stock til end of november :frowning:
But i will defintely give it a try, just the pickguard itself looks awesome and i like the colour as well

I’ve got a pearl pick guard on my P bass and one in my watch list on eBay in aged pearl for the Squier which will be purchased very soon. I love the pearl look , very classic

I know several of you have Ibanez Mikros … what strings fit them? I was told D’addario short scales have 32" to the silk and do fit it. @Mac @Bob_T

I have yet to change mine, but from this it sounds like just about any short scale will work:
