Can’t say I’m a fan of the headstock but the rest looks interesting

Hmm. Once those frets wear, they can’t be replaced, and aluminum is softer than nickel or steel. Aluminum oxide is one of the hardest substances known though so maybe the surface coating will protect it enough from the strings.

I’m confused. Looks like conventional fret wire, why can’t it be replaced? What am I missing?

Ahh you’re right, nm. I thought they were simply molded from the neck.

Coefficient of linear expansion of aluminium is 2.5×10−5C−1

Genuine question for the clever ones. Is this enough to affect anything i.e intonation?

Unencumbered by the thought process the trend in orchestras is the more wood an instrument is made of the less stable the tuning is, so I’d guess it’s fine, maybe better if you’re playing outdoors.

well it’s my favorite time of year, when the new SS stingrays are released! and they don’t disappoint. per uzhe, they’re 95% sold out in 7 minutes :joy:

It’s one of the finest EBMM bass made with such a tone monster options.
Push/ pull volume boost
3 way selector Parallel / single coil/ Series. Short compact and full of tone. I’d get one next year.

I do like my long scale basses but I find myself increasingly drawn to my Epiphone Viola and Bass VI, it may be because they are my more expensive, better put together ones or it may be that I just like them.
My fretless is full scale and I play that also, so who knows.

The Sterling seems to be the same. In a more affordable package.

The Sterling site has it sold out too.

not a surprise at all

Are there any 5 string shorties worth looking at or would the B string be all floppy?

@swiens you can have a 5 string at any scale, but the shorter it gets the thicker the B strings needs to be. My 30" 6 string has a 0.130" B string.

I had an Ibanez TMB35 for a few days and send it back … but the reason was more the general cheap feel and disappointing PUs as well as mediocre strings.

I do have two short scales with a Hipshot Extender, playing Drop D quite often. And that sounds absolutely great (with a 105 string). I would not go lower though…

Ibanez has an EHB1005s I believe, which is multi scale. G is 30"; B is 32" and it plays fine

if you look up 5 string short scale basses on youtube, you can see that most reviewers don’t really complain about the low B tension that much. it is sometimes mentioned that you can feel it, but the same is true on some long scale 5 reviews too.
