Short Love

B tension can be mitigated in part by string choice. Use a .135 string and it will be flubby.

Scale length is just one factor

Yeah! Mine is 23”. It sounds amazing. Just like the regular 5 string bass which is a feast on its own. It has Dogal string installed.

Here are the example.
I don’t have many 5 string so all of my 5 strings are above average
Yamaha BBNE2
Yamaha BB735A
Modulus Quantum 5 custom.

Here’s another among some tough tone competition

EBMM Caprice with TI Jazz Flats
EBMM Joe Dart II with TI Jazz round

My custom 23” can hang with ‘em boys.

Badass, Al! Your playing is superb.

All basses sound great.

And I really dig that Lake Street Dive tune. Great groove and lines. :+1:

Thanks @MikeC Their Bassist, Bridget Kearney is way cool, she plays a modded acoustic upright with some pedals. I wanna put that on the EUB too, that would sound pretty awesome.

She feels good, and sounds good. A bit twangy, especially with a pick, but I think a string change will change that. She is a fat bottomed girl though

So, Offbeat guitars is having a sale this weekend. Go check it out. Some good deals I think. Probably came at the worst possible time for me. I’m stuck at work this weekend, kinda feeling sorry for myself, nobody around to tell me I have too many basses. Truly a time of weakness. I’m just proud of myself that I didn’t buy 2. Not sure if it’s the same one but the one I bought looks just like this one…

if I was in the market I would be taking a really long look at offbeat, I think they’re just killer.

Yeah, their finish reminds me of the PRS limited edition "sandblasted’ finish.

the original Spector pulse also has this finish

It looks killer in person. Like I know for a fact that the PRS SE Custom does not fit me well, and I still kind of want one.

Cool take and serious playing on a bunch of shorties by a bona fide badass shorty.

I particularly loved how the Danelectro Longhorn sounded, and I really miss the one I owned and played in a band. Legit rock and blues bass!

I’m strangely drawn to the Longhorn and don’t know why…

The Danelectro Longhorn has a hell of a thunderous thump and it plays like a dream. Its shape seems arbitrary (definitely non-Fender), but it weighs nothing (hollow-body construction with janky-cheap, non-traditional materials) so you can wear it forever with no shoulder/back fatigue. Plus, it positions beautifully in the lap when you’re seated.

I bought mine and played it in a band with zero consideration of how it looked onstage or elsewhere; it was all about sound and playability. And this puppy kills it on both counts. :+1:
