Short Love

Ahh, cool. Yeah, if they fit you then they look super killer.

And yeah I get it, I generally don’t go above $1500 or so for an instrument. That $1000 price point is just loaded with amazing quality gear.

Classic look! Maple neck, pastel pink, white pickguard. Love that combo.

You might like the tiny ESP’s they make for BanG Dream, same scale IIRC:

These are adorable. The Roselia one (lower right) in particular is really cool, IMO. The only bummer is the fake knobs.

i am a giant fan of all of the above

I can’t remember if they are 28" or 23". Actually probably 28.

A bit of a double post but here’s my new shorty. It’s a Reverend Mike Watt Wattplower Mk I. Comes in at a dainty 6.5 lbs, this thing seriously feels like a toy. Then you plug it in and the sound is monstrous. I plugged it in to my rig where I left off last night with my BB300 and just about blasted myself out of the basement through just studio monitors. Just huge. The tone knob does a ton of work. The tension on the E string feels just like a standard 34" scale comparing it side by side with my 734. Not too sure I like the top strap button being on the back of the body though.

One question though, replacing strings on this… it’s a string through, would I be better off just buying long scale strings to make sure they fit? It comes with SIT SS rounds and I am not a fan (I bought some and pulled them off my 734 after a month).

I love that bass, congrats! no idea about the strings though.

Generally speaking, you should be able to use short scale strings on a through-body shortie without issue.

Thank you. I spent about a half hour with a U5 today while they looked over the basses I sold. That Sire has no right being as solid feeling and sounding as it does for that price. The frets felt and looked beautiful under my fingers. I’ve got an open spot on my guitar rack now. I’m going to have to think hard on it for awhile (tbh, I’d probably lean more towards one of the new M7’s).

Congrats! It’s an awesome bass, I have the emerald green one.

I figured I’d give flats a try and went with the labella deep talking bass 760FS-S. They were not long enough to string through the body.

I failed to realize that they make a set specifically for short scale string through body. I don’t recall the model off the top of my head but I believe it has “MUS” instead of “FS” (mustang??) in the model number.

This may not be the case for other brands, but if you had LaBella flats on your radar it’s something to look out for.

I own 3 of this. It was the first bass I bought with my paycheck.

I’m going to science the shit out of one of them. It will be with larger cavity and probably with the Xtender pickups make that 2 Quad coil Xtender pickups and some crazy electronic wiring
4 band EQ: 5 knobs 2 switches Passive/ Active, and Series/ Parallel
Passive tone control
Stacked Bass/ treble
Stacked Mid freq/ mid control
and whatever else I can think off. Imma take the KitchenSink approach to this bass. Then maybe refinish it to a Metallic Candy apple Red then Plek it.

Why NOT?,

I love the banana yellow, the green and the blue that I’ve seen are gorgeous also. Thankfully they only had the 1 yellow one so I didn’t have to decide. I’m going to put a set of GHS pressurewounds on. They come in 32.75" shortscale, which might just be a little too short for the D and G string on there. I’m going to give it a few weeks but SS rounds are just way too bright for me.

They are so good!

Also @Wes The proper La Bella set for thru-body shorties is the 760F-MUS. I have them on my Schecter Banshee. They fit perfectly.

La Bella has repackaged their existing short scale thru-body strings and added a couple more to the lineup, now called STANG.

La Bella STANG short scale thru-body strings

@faydout That bridge is the same as the one on my Wattplower Mk 2. Note that it’s thru-body OR top mount.

Congrats on the new Reverend. Looks amazing. I am curious what store had Reverend and a U5 in stock. I only see them online.

Thank you. Gets better too. I was debating picking up a McGrath at the same store (but it sold the day before). This was at one of the 4 local Music Go Rounds near where I work. For whatever reason, this particular one gets some really interesting gear a lot of the time (the one in Littleton CO if you’re interested).

She looks gorgeous.

TI Jazz Flats are on the long side for short scale, and should fit just fine
