I’d want to go with the rounds on this bass, but this might be the perfect excuse to finally try out a set of TI’s.
TI flats have a lot of mid and high frequency, they are bright like rounds in fact. TI rounds are super bright
Love them cause they sound bright (enough) on a short scale … without sounding too aggressive!
That’s the one. I was kinda bummed when I realized I got the top mount strings, but I like them just fine. Next time I’ll get the through body set, though that’ll probably be a long ways down the road.
I really don’t know anything about this. it’s 30", it’s really cheap. oh and it comes in orange ![]()
From what I’ve read, they’re made in China. The price point reinforces that notion, at least at the moment.
I think Mitchell is Guitar Center’s in house brand?
Maybe I’ve misremembered this but I think Phil McKnight mentioned it once in a podcast.
Yeah it’s their house brand. Have no opinion on them either way
Well, it’s here
It’s gorgeous, weighs about 7.75 pounds, the neck feels wonderful, the pickups sound great, a little underwhelmed by the vintage neck pickup, but I think that’s due in part to how fantastic the bridge pickup is.
I didn’t play it long so that’s just some first impressions. We were going through a mini heat wave yesterday and I was dripping sweat and all sticky so not a comfortable situation.
Two bits of bad news.
One minor, the E string isn’t as loud as the A, so need a setup to balance it out.
One major, serious hum, which I should not have. There was a hole poked in the box so maybe it was knocked around some in shipping, and one of the connections is loose. When I touch the strings or cable jack it goes away, so seems like ground came off. Will have to check later.
But she’s a little beast
such a nice neck ![]()
Congrats. Really pretty. Who made it?
It was made by Chris Brinker
https://reverb.com/shop/brinkerbass
He makes basses, long scale, multi scale, and a lot of short scale.
What is good is there is a lot of back and forth, a lot of photos, I got to choose the wood, the layout of the boards, which board to use for the fingerboard, so many things.
I gave him a list of things I wanted - short scale, 42mm nut width, 20ish frets (think I have 22)double P, rear compartment and he built it for less than $800. I provided the pickups though.
so nice. and actually i was talking about the fretboard ![]()
That’s okay too
Yea! That neck is epic!
Well the Bass is fixed. Ground wire came off the vol pot.
Now to restart b2b with a pick and see what Josh 2.0 has got
The result is very cool! And the price is unbelievable…
Next step: get some power tools and start building a bass yourself?!?!?!?
Maybe after I retire I can use my BILs shop.
I will do a quick update,
The bass sounds very good, with that two fisted punch you get only out of dual precision pickups. It is very loud, I had to turn down my volume on the amp.
In a weird twist the bridge pickup is much hotter than the neck pickup. So I may need to turn the vol down on the bridge or seat the pickup lower, or I am tempted to roll with it as the bridge pickup has so much character.
And just moderate the sound with the neck. Or turn the bridge vol down a bit.
It’s a good bass day when I am dealing with these things.
