should just change the thread title to this (incl the emoji), it’s a great summary
I totally agree.
Or maybe:
OCD, can you see
By the knobs barely tight?
Why not use the hole plug?

I made this for Jesse @Reasonably_Happy You can paint the white one into any color you want.
heh, sorry but nope… I’m sure they are beautiful to play and everyone and their dog seems to adore the stingrays but I really, really, do not like their signature pick guard look.
The darkglass pre-amp is pretty awesome though And the fret board is a lovely colour.
I really like the body shape on the StingRay 5 RAY5 HH but the entire neck looks like it’s on the wrong guitar. And while not the funny spot the pick guard detracts from the clean lines of the body shape.
The colouring on this one is absolutely gorgeous and the head stock actually matches the body which is great (and something I love about my Yamaha), but that pick guard and the paler fret board is messing it up again.
Beauty is in the eye…
100% truth
And I will happily acknowledge that I am a distinctly fussy b…
I love the unique 3x1 headstock you can find it anywhere else because it’s their trademark,
As for pickguard you don’t need one you can just take them out. I have a few that I took out and some the didn’t even come with one.
That said your taste will change with everything on a bass. One day you’ll like single coil jazz another humbucker, the passive or active, flats or rounds, dark color or bright colors, short, medium, long( standard or extra long scale. If it’s done right it should shift every 6-9 months or so.
Whereas I’d play on a potato as long as it felt and sounded right.
Never! The Schaller ST knobs stay!
autocorrect
Hole plug. Strat style knobs are great with strats style body. Here’s mine with the correct solid shaft pots
It also have both of the pickup brands you used on both your basses.
But that leaves the screws like the second one you pictured. They hurt my ocd like sense of perfection.
Hardware, I can totally believe that.
Colour and design? Haha, nope… My ADHD doc and I have knocked noggins over this for the last 3+ years I’ve been seeing him. When covid hit and we got to WFH, I could finally stop the business casual work dress crap and I bought 7 pairs of the same black comfy cotton pants and 7 of the same black cotton long sleeved shirt. I’ve been wearing them every day for the last 4 years.
I’m 46, I’ve worn 99% black only for the last umm, 30 of those years with the rare branch out to dark grey, dark red or dark purple. Even my husband has given up trying to get me to expand my wardrobe. This tends to extends out to the things I surround myself with also. There was a rare momentary lapse of reason around 14-16 when I actually wore a blue denim shirt over a white t-shirt and blue jeans, with white trainers and neon laces. I blame puberty and the insanity of the 90’s, thankfully I got back to my senses at about 17 and fell in love with the goth look.
I am in general a distinct creature of habit and once I find something I like it tends to stick.
@howard & @MikeC - if you want to keep the moral high ground that you’ve established before in this thread, I would not write stuff like that. But that’s just me.
@MikeC : at least @howard is giving helpful information, so I ignore some of his remarks. And some are really funny…
Still waiting for your contribution though - except lyrics about knobs
It seems to me we can all improve, right?
Which ones are those?
I had a long phone call with Thomann yesterday… about knobs
They have the same issue and couldn’t solve it!
Not the knobs but the pots. One with 6.3mm solid shaft. EMG makes both.
The problem with Schaller is the depth. It’s quite shallow. I love the brass weight but the design is not very forgiving.
Ha, yup, Steve Jobs and umm, Mark Zuckerburg have spoken about doing the same thing. Part of it is minimalism, part of it is simply removing the need to waste brainpower on making pointless decisions in the morning.
ADHD is an executive function disorder. The more energy I can keep for making important decisions the better I function in my day to day.
Yes, I think so too!
It’s not easy to talk about knobs and shafts, without getting too NSFW ^^
But the issue of the shaft might not be the thickness but how long it is. Also you need to be careful how to screw. Best is to screw into the split, otherwise you will break the shaft.
Imagine me explaining that to Schaller’s grannie on the phone when I called Schaller support yesterday.
I felt … uncomfortable…
So now I am still looking for fitting pots. Musicstore.de (a Thomann alternative) recommended CTS split shaft pots, by the way.
I wish I could get EMG-like pots…
Man it’s hard to take you seriously sometimes as you are a FSA all the time, see how I incorporate bike talk there, it’s a public forum and not a private chat lines.
You are promoting extreme make over to a bass that’s been awarded best value by many and just render it not great bang for the bucks anymore. Also seems to dislike the opposing views or opinions. If you like mod so much why not try to mod a Ken Smith or a Fedora. I’d pay to see that extreme make over.
@MikeC and @howard are fine gentlemen who’s contribution are of great value to this community each had persuaded me to get at least 6 basses to add to my shed how can you repay someone like that.
