Sunburst finishes run the gamut from gorgeous to gag-worthy. Some players dig every burst that comes down the pike. Others don’t seem to like ANY bursts at all.
So let’s see the bursts that turn you on and/or off.
To be fair, the limited capabilities of many would-be photographers, cameras, and less-than-stellar lighting conditions can result in shoddy renderings of the subtleties of an instrument’s sunburst finish. I’ve seen so many bursts look utterly spectacular in person and like absolute dog dookie in photos.
Both basses I own have burst finishes.
The Squier Classic Vibe '60s Fretless Jazz Bass has a 3-color sunburst finish.
The Fender Player Jazz Bass has a blue burst finish.
Our dog Zooey approves of both of them.
These two look basically the same in this pic, but in person are very different, each with their own charm.
The Viola in particular is nowhere near as dark and draws the eye in.
Same bass same room, different but still not true to life.
My one and only bass (and burst) - not my first choice, but the best bang for the buck I could shell out for w/amp and B2B. Overall I’m not generally a fan of the burst but it’s growing on me. My photography skills don’t help any that’s for sure!
The basses that shot way above their weight in looks and performance are the Squier contemporary, a must have for home studio. As is put a Fender FSA logo on I’d believe it if the tag is $1500.
