nicely done!
Epic work! Love to see that.
That’s great luck you had finding those faders. Nice…
After going to guitar center and playing both the Rumble 100 and the Rumble 40 for a while, I determined the following:
- The Rumble 100 is loud, but I do worry about it being loud enough. Any future band that I play in would probably be playing rock and classic rock (AC/DC, Black Sabbath, etc are my favorite bands), and I’ve heard as many people say the 100 isn’t loud enough for that as I’ve heard say it is.
- The Rumble 40 is also quite loud in my office. I keep the master volume at like 2 o’clock and gain at like 9 o’clock, with the vintage button engaged, and it’s about ~85dB in my office. There’s a lot more volume available, but this is what I’m willing to do to my high-mileage ears on a regular and consistent basis. The Rumble 40 also has XLR out, so in a pinch I could play a small gig if it had a PA.
- I’ve technically spent over my saved “allowance” on this resurrected hobby, and with my trade-in, the Rumble 40 was $70, where the Rumble 100 would be $170. That extra hundred dollars matters to my wife, who frowns on my deficit spending tactics.
- If and when I have the opportunity to play out, I want to get a more modular system: powerful head of some sort, and a 2x10 or 4x10 and maybe a 1x15 to use together or separately as may be needed.
Hence, I’m the very happy new owner of a Fender Rumble 40.
Your logic is
The Rumble 40 is great for practice and small venues. For anything else I would look at least at 200W and higher.
Very nice solder work!
Yeah no kidding, almost looks reflow. Better than I could do with an iron.
a good quality soldering wire helps a lot !
Yeah. I could probably up my flux game a bit too. Solder-wise I still use 1mm lead (I greatly prefer the eco-destroying solder).
It’s easier with lead, yeah, but I switched to RoHS a long time ago since there is no more lead, I find that the quality varies a lot from one soldering wire to another. The one sold by MusicDing, where I buy the pedals and preamps kits, is quite good and not crazy expensive (about 15€ for 100 grams). I use 1 mm too.
Makes sense. For RoHS I’m guessing the more you spend, the higher the silver content, and the better the wire.
yeah and also the integrated flux is not always the same
so cool ! I really like the V4
Not sure where to post this, maybe a “Show us your cabs” thread is missing ?
So here is the inside of my Yamaha 4x10 cab. It’s quite well build :
- all made out of 13 mm plywood
- 4 large internal bracings
- every side is isolated with acoustic wool, except the bottom because the air needs room to reach the port
The pictures are not the best because I didn’t have much room to manipulate my phone and take pictures through the back speaker plug plate.
I plan to add a Speakon plug and a ON/OFF switch to bypass completely the tweeter and the crossover filter.
I’ll try to know more about the drivers when I will be able to reach the stickers on the magnets.
Killer!
You always do such nice, clean work.
I’m excited to see the exterior when you’re done.
My friend pulled a car name-plate off of a Ford Aerostar and put it on his amp.
I loved that.
Gave it a real punk/classy look.
oh I’ve not done anything on this cab yet, just pictures of the existing cab for now
so not MY amp, but didn’t know where to put this. appears to have what is basically room correction.
no aux in is strange. probably means more to me than most though, i love playing to tracks on my phone. speaker cab is kinda fugly?
For the price and what you do get, it looks pretty awesome.
