Show Us Your Basses (Part 1)

Soo you never told us (unless I missed it) what you thought about plek?

Yeah, Mostly because the Flat Strings that I had put on did not allow me to fully analyze what the plek may or may not have done. Part of what I am feeling might be because of the flat strings.
I had planned to change strings, after giving the flats a proper trial of around a week, but then the next part of this puzzle happened.
I went to the hospital, and never got a chance to finish testing the flat wound strings, in turn, never changing to Rounds, and in turn, never getting to to proper play thru, and inspection on the strings that I am most comfortable on.

And now, due to me getting sick, and having not played bass for 8 weeks, I will need even more time to get myself back to speed, then analyze the flats, make the change, analyze the rounds ON THE PLEK, and then write a review.

It might not be as good of a review had it all been done in the proper timeline, but something is better than nothing.

all that said, I can say with a good degree of certainty, that my PLEK review will be MOST FAVORABLE. I have had the opportunity to play around on a few side by side comparisons, for certain features, and the results are somewhat amazing and spectacular.

Just bought this on an impulse after trying it out at a local shop – Sterling by Music Man Stingray Classic (Ray24CA), Butterscotch

I’ve been wanting to get more into slap/funkier stuff so have kept my eye on the Music Man line for a while, but all the options I’ve seen are a bit out of my price range – then found this for $500. It’s definitely a step up from their cheaper S.U.B. series, and I like the focus on going back to the “classic” Stingray design/colors.

Sounds great right out of the box. I lowered the action a bit and this is going to be a fantastic bass for both slapping and rock/heavier stuff. My other bass is a Fender Precision so I’m excited about the versatility this new guy brings to the table!

Looks great @bjams,
You just became @T_dub best mate, he will be able to give you an insight into your new family member :+1:
Looks similar to what I’ve just done to my P-Bass

Cheers Brian

When I saw your photo I thought it was my old bass. I sold an Aria copy last year - for £20! Nothing wrong with it except no market. It went to a teacher as a student instrument.

P neck on J body? It’s a gorgeous finish (but I’m a sucker for wood).

Well this is my very modest set up (you have to start somewhere!)The Cort Action was voted best budget buy by Badass. The Vox Pathfinder 10w comes out ok in reviews for a bedroom! They both sound great to me haha.
The way the lessons are going I can see myself upgrading very soon although I’m wondering if I should have bought a 30" bass. I’m a short arse guy with small hands and really struggling on the top frets.

I do have a couple of questions regarding the set up if anyone can help.
There are two volume and one tone knobs on the bass. Is is best to use both volume knobs and the tone knob or a permutation?
On the Vox there are various settings. As a beginner is it best not to use the Drive and Bright settings and set the Bass and Treble half way. Also I set the Volume at 50% on the Vox and control the overall volume on the bass ! Your advice would be appreciated :grinning:

yeah but I don’t know if I will ever play it : the transporter says it has been “lost” which seems to me like a polite word for “stolen”. wait and see …

Oh merde! Worse than something going missing in the post, is something gorgeous going missing. I hope it turns up.

Hi there @Brian.RichardS,
Hope you enjoy your new gear,
In regards to the different settings etc, I would set everything up to suit what you like to hear from the bass through your amp.
Unless your playing to an audience🤔
At the end of the day everyone is different.
Hope this helps.
Cheers Brian

Knobs are made to be fiddled with, and within your practice space there are no right or wrong answers, only sounds you enjoy and sounds you don’t.

Edit to be slightly more helpful: A good place to start on a PJ bass like yours is turn your P pickup to the desired level, and slowly turn up the J pickup to add some of that qwackier flavor until you find something that sounds good to you. Play with the tone knob from there to mess with it some more.

Looking forward to hearing this one on a post sometime! I had the CA TT model on my long term wish list already, so I’m curious about this one too.

I really should give recording a try, but I don’t feel very coonfident about my technique, still way too much unwanted noise… and the zero fret really gets those strings ringing :hear_no_evil:
