This 1971 Gibson EB-0 has taken up permanent residence. My daughter’s partner got it from a long-passed uncle who used it to teach high school bass in Florida. Mahagony, 30.5", 19 frets, slotted head, 7.2 lbs. Plays like butter. Won’t replace my Sterling StingRay Ray4HH, but great for days when I’m feeling mellow.
That’s a great looking bass @krt1 .
when i sold my red rick a long time ago i later thought i made a huge mistake. years later i wouldn’t really want it back and if i did, they pop up on reverb every blue moon. i could get another if i really wanted it. nice recovery with the warwick
I was just really lucky with the Warwick @itsratso . Right place, right time and a previous owner who was brutally over honest with his description and marked the price way down low to reflect his opinion
Wow congrats, I know I’ll get shit for it but ricks don’t really do anything for me but Warwicks on the other hand…
Look at that headstock. I think you might actually own an SG that’s going to stay in tune for more than three seconds @krt1 ! Lovely!
So I thought, man, I would love to have the J-J version of my new CIJ Fender Aerodyne to go with the PJ that I really really really love.
The J-J was a very rare one done in the same flame blue maple top, with special DiMarzio designed pickups. Very hard to find. I’ve had a search up for a while now and no bites. I decided to post in the Aerodyne Club thread on Talkbass just to see if anyone might want to part with theirs, and, a member said “there is one on Reverb now, but for a crazy marked up price”. (You know where this story is going). So after some haggling back to reality, she is on her way to meet her sister….
Congrats. Nice find
@John_E , that’s firkin’ stunning!
I’m thinkin’ chrome / mirror pickguard….
Real aluminum diamond plate.
Sorry to hear about the Rick.
I never played a Rick, but have played the corvette’s. They are nice, but nothing I could ever fall in love with.
But who knows, maybe for you, it will be perfect., hopefully, it will, and the pain of selling the Rick will wear off quickly.
Thank you @T_dub
Different beast to anything I’ve played before but so far so good.
The Rick was definitely something I dreamt of owning but there’s times when you gotta do what you gotta
Yeah, I know these times too well. A little too well this week. I have to do some legal things with my lawyer and the prosecutor and investigating agents on Friday.
I am dreading it, and don’t want to at all, but hey, gotta do what you have to do.
I’ll keep everything crossed for you with that @T_dub . You’re most certainly going through shittier times than me
Nice find John! Looks great!
Just got the SBV home. It is in great shape so far.
It totally didn’t come out in the pictures from the seller but the fretboard is gorgeous:
really nice grain. Frets look good, about 90% left, just need a polish, which I’ll do when I change the strings.
The neck has a really nice roasted color to it:
In general it has that feel of a really high quality instrument. 2006, made in Taiwan like most SBVs, 3.9kg, nice and light, I’m in love already. Came with an original gig bag, which is cool because ot has a really odd shape (and my dog approves).
Haven’t checked the truss rod yet. Neck is pretty flat though.
Sounds great too. No major scratches, just a little dusty. Very pleased so far.
Looks really good @howard
Congratulations
Sweet
Thanks!
Truss rod is tight in both directions (I don’t think the prior owner ever turned it). I’ll know more when I get the strings off and clean it up later tonight, but seems solid.
