I’ve been drooling over the Yamaha Silent Upright Bass for a long time, but the price has held me back. Now that throat cancer and ensuing laryngectomy has rendered me silent, it’s only fitting that I own a silent_series bass.
I have parlayed my Eastman acoustic upright, NS Designs WAV EUB, and Sterling Ray5 into the Yamaha SLB300. Thanks to a sweet deal from my Sweetwater rep, along with Sweetwater’s 6 months no interest, I was able to pull it off.
The SLB supplants the acoustic upright in terms of tone and playability, at 1/3 the weight and 1/4 the bulk. I can easily transport it in my sedan, whereas I was unable to with the bulky acoustic.
So, along with my Yamaha BB735, I’m down to two basses, both Yammies. I’m quite comfortable with my Minimal Bass Disorder.

That’s gorgeous! @PamPurrs how’s the action is it like the double bass or close to the EUB? I’ve been drooling over this too but I’m just afraid when it’s too high end it would be too close to the real thing which not what I’m after, lol.

It’s identical to the double bass, and nothing like any of the EUBs I’ve owned/played. This is why so many professional double bassists are playing the SLB300.
