Show Us Your Basses (Part 2)

I was thinking about such an option yesterday. Maybe even a thumb rest that can be moved into the right position. Hmmmmmmm…

But I am not free to choose any colour I like, right?

See the edit above - there are printers that’ll do four colors at once. Or there’s still paint…

But than I could just paint my old pick guard. I read somewhere that most painting does not stick properly…

Well, this is moving into tougher territory, but you print a mold that the pickguard fits into, paint the recessed letters or graphics, then set the pickguard into the mold, pour in a 1mm coat of resin that’ll fill the recessed part, and cover the top of the pickguard too, and make it super shiny…

Resin is easier than you might think to work with, I made a bunch of resin dice when I was going nuts during the pandemic. Thinking about all the stuff I put into dice, wow, you could do some interesting things with pickguards. I’ll look into a hard wearing resin, but given they make tool handles out of it, etc, I imagine it’s doable. (And a little searching reveals that indeed, people have done this. But not exactly what I had in mind…)

Off on holiday for a week. Here’s the travel rig.

Ibanez Talman project bass
Boss Katana Go headphone amp
Sennheiser 598 open backed bins

We are living in the golden age. I can stream all the songs I’m working on to the Katana from my phone via Bluetooth.

Magic :sunglasses:

this Talman looks insanely cool. I prefer chrome hardware but still, a very cool little bass.

I’ve edited the 3d print file to have proper and well-fitted cutouts for the left side screw holes of the pick ups. It now fits perfectly on my bass, no sanding, etc, required.

This file should appear on Thingiverse in a day or so, under any search terms relating to a Stingray 4 HH, or user “deleverage”. All I ask is that if you print a pickguard you post it here!

Here’s a link to the 3d print file

I traded the Hagstrom Viking for an Ibanez EBH1000S.

The pink ROCKS :metal:

Cool! Looking forward to your review. But weren’t you in the market for a 5-string a few months ago? That would have been a nice opportunity to get an EHB 5 string, right?

PS Waiting for a pink bass myself

I was pondering it, but then decided against, at this stage of my bass journey. Most of the stuff I am trying to play can be played on a 4, so I don’t really see the point in getting a 5.

The EHB1000S is pretty cool, especially in pink! It’s the pink that sold it to me!! It’s very short, so initially took a bit of getting used to. The Hagstrom was a short scale, but overall that bass was longer than my Dingwall. The EHB looks tiny against it! That said, swapping between the EHB and the Dingwall isn’t hard - I was doing this last Tuesday night at a jam session.

My new old Pawn Shop Mustang is here

Neck and rosewood fretboard are gorgeous. Looks like D’Addario Chromes for strings, no silk. A worn spot and a ding; much as “road worn” annoys me, honest dings I can deal with.

No clue what the pickups are yet, will have to remove the pickguard to find out

Time for some blues baby

excellent one ! I love the special “competition” color with the normal Mustang pickup. very cool !

indeed. exactly the kind of rosewood that I love (Greenie is like that too), a bit “red”, not too dark and not too regular

I do like the color and competition stripe. The metallic in the stripe really pops, she’s a looker.

I am of two minds on the pickup. I like the normal Mustang pickup, but would also like restore it to original with a humbucker.

I have no idea what pickup is in it, I will play it for a couple weeks, then decide, which to leave this as it is and put the humbucker in my Squier, or put the humbucker in this one.

May 15 is when WD will ship the new pickguard, so all good until then.

I love a good rosewood.

Also liked that they moved the tug bar.

I ordered my custom Mayones Jabba EP fifteen months ago today.

I’m still waiting for it. But in all fairness, I did spec some unique build elements, and those have required approval from the Mayones owner and time.

I have no idea when the final build will be delivered, but here is an update pic I got a month ago.
