yes. another fender i like ![]()
Itās totally cool. I like Torino Red but it seems out of place on a Fender, where I like to see more of the pastels like this.
New to the forum! I started playing in October '23 and this is a photo of the humble family Iāve amassed so far. I began with the ESP LTD B55 on the right, got a good deal on it used from GC. That, plus a gifted Fender Mustang Micro, got me through the first few months without anyone elseās eardrums having to bleed. ![]()
Once I decided that I was going to stick to it, I shopped around for a Bass that really felt like āmineā and landed on the Jackson JS3QV on the *left. I find it absolutely stunning. Itās as much a joy to play as it is to look at. All the bells and whistles I could ask for- active/passive, 3-band EQ, split coil toggle switch, etc. The Jackson is currently strung with LaBella black nylon tapes, and the ESP has DR Legend flats.
Also pictured: My Scarlett 2i4 and Ampeg Rocketbass 110 that I got on sale at GC for $250. Excited to be taking the plunge into the B2B course soon and taking my play to the next level.
Okay, well Iām super excited. I just pulled the trigger on this bad boy. I donāt see too many people talking about Jackson basses, but this thing plays like a thing of beauty, and a super versatile bass guitar! It has a thin neck and active pickups, but also has a passive mode as well. Its not that heavy (8lbs), looks beautiful and has all the features of a really expensive bass for less than a grand.
I tested one out in the past and loved the way it sounded, the style, etc, but didnāt like the color. Then I saw this one online and called up my rep. He gave me a great deal on it and I pulled the trigger. Now I have to impatiently wait for it to arrive lol
I know the guitar tech who works on the Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarās so once it comes in, Iāll get with him to do the setup.
Jackson Pro Series Spectra Bass SBP IV
Very nice! Iām happy you found one that really fits you!!! Iām diving into the Jackson family as well. I had a Jackson guitar at one point and loved playing it, now super thrilled to be getting a Jackson bass after playing a yamaha for about a year ![]()
Itās a beautiful bass. Iāve always wondered if they are made in the same factory as some of the higher end Ibanez basses, there are so many similarities.
I know Jackson is owned by Fender now adays. Wikipedia says:
In the Fall of 2002, Fender Musical Instruments Corporation purchased Jackson from IMC, the company which had bought Jackson from Grover Jackson, and U.S. operations were moved to the Fender factory in Corona. Medium-high-end Jackson guitars were briefly made in Japan. Present day Fender-era Jackson and Charvel guitars are produced at Corona and Fenderās Ensenada facility.
This is made in Indonesia so I presume itās made by Cort, as are most Indonesian made instruments.
LOL Iāll take your word for it. It was certainly made in Indonesia, and is a medium -high end Jackson. Its one of their most expensive bass guitars (4th most expensive) and has a lot of high end features.
Iām not familiar enough with the different factories and what they bring to the table though. Any idea?
Core-Tek (Cort) makes many instruments in South Korea, China, and Indonesia. And they make them for many manufacturers. The serial number for your bass starts with ICJ which I decode as Indonesia (which I know for certain), Cort, Jackson. It is really common for manufacturers to subcontract. Fender MIJ are famously made by Fujigen and Tokai.
Cort makes good quality stuff btw so itās a good thing
Good to know, thanks!
Well⦠maybe a third. Thereās three primary guitar factories in Indonesia, and Cort owns one of them. Unless you count Samick as Cort, in which case they own two. I am actually unclear on the relationship between Samick and Cor-Tek.
Yamaha has since opened their own factory after this was posted and so presumably they are no longer made at PT Wildwood:

It does appear that Jacksons are made in the Cort factory though, yep. And that bass (which looks awesome!) definitely looks like a Cort ![]()
Or Ibanez, very similar to a SR Premium really. Looks like a great bass.
Thanks! for the info!! Iām so stoked to get it⦠I keep refreshing my sweetwater page to see if it even shipped yet lol
Sire owns and operates its own factory in Indonesia, and, boy, are their arms tired!
They havenāt been able to keep up with demand for the last few years. And with their new models, theyāre gonna be all the more busy.
I could just go on and on about this thing. The body is perfectly weighted- light without feeling cheap or neck-divey, comfortable to play for hours. The neck is thin and fast like an Ibanez, with a nice satin finish. The purple burst over the quilted maple top is an absolute treat to look at. It almost looks like flowing water in the right lighting.
Iāve been impressed by the electronics as well, the push/pull selector on the volume pot feels nice and weighty, the knobs donāt have numbers, but they have a notch at 50% that gives some feedback to let you know where youāre at. The onboard EQ is cool, itās amazing how many tones you can get from this thing. I havenāt jumped into pedals yet because I feel like Iām still learning different ways to manipulate my sound with the options I already have. The pickups are solid, not too hot and still sound good when theyāre cranked up.
It needed a setup out of the box, but since then, the only maintenance itās needed in the ~6 months Iāve owned it so far was a new pack of strings.
If I had any complaints at all, Iād say my muscle memory isnāt where it needs to be yet for me to switch back and forth between the two- the extended scale of the Jackson makes me just a bit off if Iāve been playing my ESP for a while. Otherwise it seems like the ESP is almost āeasy modeā in comparison, the frets are a lot more tolerant with finger placement and I feel like I get away with more mistakes on it, the Jackson requires more precision and has a tendency to humble me at times.
Sounds like a great guitar though! The muscle memory will come! Thatās one thing I learned through my child. Nice and slowly wins the race as that will translate to faster speeds.
Iām super happy you found one that fits you so nicely, and love the purple burst it has!
Yeah Herbie is the same with me, I need to be more precise in my fretting or I get some buzz. I think the setup needs tweaking in my case, but I donāt mind. Better to establish good habits to my mind. But I do like ESPs.
