Congrats John!
Started life as a red SR200. Decided to mess around with it and stripped it down to paint it orange. Front paint got messed up with drips due to my impatience. Sanded it to start over and liked the two tone look, so I just clear coated it. Later on changed hardware to black and installed Geezer Butler pickups. They really improved the sound and response!
@Barney
I just watched your new Video
I look forward to your review of that little Kala! Iāve been wanting one since they released! Did you have to order the flatwounds separately?
I ordered the Flatwounds separately. Cheapest I found were here:
Itās early days so Iāll come back and review it after our 3 week road trip.
it is really crazy how big those stupid lil basses sound. and also how surprisingly heavy the new ones are. they are awesome.
Hereās the bass Iām playing. I bought it in '98 I think. I believe it was the colour that won me over. Itās an Squier Musicmaster Bass.
I know I just recently showed off my 4 string but I decided to adopt a Sterling Stingray Sub 5.
I was having a rough time on vacation, there were hundreds of screaming kids around and I got the thought, āI wonder if I can find a deal on a Stingrayā.
Well I found a low price on eBay and decided to float a silly offer (one I never thought would happen). We ended up negotiating a bit but ultimately I ended up spending $221.
This was the shot of retail therapy I needed. I quickly apologized to the wife and all was good.
There are a few dings and scratches on the back but considering the price I canāt complain one but. It still looks great and plays like a dream.
Such wonderful instruments here. Iāve bought a starters set in the local music store, based purely on looks. I like black and figured I wouldnāt get bored of that. My uncle is a bassist and he made sure the setup is correct. Itās a Ibanez IJSR190. The amp is small but I live in an apartment and use headphones. I donāt feel the need to perform on stage or play with a band so this all will do just fine, at least for now.
nice set ! I did not know ibanez made starter sets, , congrats!
@qenden Itās from the Bax Music Store. I got it in Rotterdam. Itās out of stock now but Iāve bought it in november last year.
Ahh Bax, been to the Amsterdam store once and was able to try a lot of basses without getting harrassed
Amsterdam has the biggest store, I think. Never been there because I live close to Rotterdam. Thatās a decent size as well and I like the overall vibe.
Het, another Dutchie I live relatively close to Rotterdam as well!
Nice! Very similar to my first bass. I modded my Ibanez with a new pickup, high mass bridge and nicer knobs after owning it for 5+ years.
I will say, playing with better gear can help with learning but if you like it and you are practicing thatās all that matters.
Also I didnāt get a stand or headphones back when I got my kit!
I donāt think I have mastered hearing all the differences yet. I am really new to all this and I have no idea why (or how) I should change something. I have never played anything other than this one and even that is just a couple of days. I also havenāt really figured out what those 3 knobs do, other than volume. I know they should relate to the pickups but I donāt know what the sweet spot is just yet. And I think this is both a P and a J bass, right? I am watching youtube videos about the differences, but like I said, I simply picked this one because I liked how it looked.
Just find easy baselines you like and search up xxxx song bass tab and youāll probably find it.
Playing along with songs and getting it right is so much fun.
When I was in the Navy, my ship pulled into Rotterdam, and I took the train to Amsterdam. I was in a bar having a room temperature Heineken when the bartender put a cassette into the tape deck, and I never been the same since. I asked him what that tape was, and he said, āIron Maiden, Number Of The Beastā We pulled into Portsmouth England a week or so later and I beat feet to the nearest record store and got my copy of the tape! Guess what year?
Close! Can you identify the ribbons? I used to be good at that, they donāt look familiar at all!
Are they even US ribbons?
