Show Us Your Basses (Part 2)

Yeah… import duties make a lot more expensive.

Fair enough, not something I’d thought of

Brexit damaged their small businesses. Many lost all EU clients. Through Amazon.co.uk, they return the import duties for small things

Congrats on your new bass !

I was also eyeing this color . Very nice one !

My « bass is probably something for me » was last year with MIM Fender J

But my NG3 is more 100% GAS

I did not hear of FGN basses so I had to google it. I understand it is made Japan in the same factory as IBANEZ and where they made Fenders and other’s. It is not a low end bass. The FGN has amazing reviews regarding quality, sound and value. I would consider this bass if I had GAS or had an opportunity I could not refuse.
Have you posted any video’s using it? I would love to hear it! Love the straps too,

I recently posted this video using my FGN BMJ-R Jazz bass that I picked up in Japan a couple of years ago.

@JerryP, thanks for this. I really could not discern the bass sound very much over the backing track. It looks really nice.
Out of the basses that you own, where do you rank your FGN?

Gorgeous 2 tone fingerboard, is it Rosewood? The pattern is very much like John Myung Bongo. Sounds great @JerryP

Thanks Al!

I had to look it up. It is a Granadillo (Mexican Rosewood) fretboard.

Thank you Linda. I think it has great build quality for an entry level bass. The only thing I did with it is put some T-I JF344 flats on it. I give it an 8 out of 10.
I have another cover with the FGN.

I didn’t realize we get a bass for each song we learn.
Time to go shopping …

Have to gamify the learning a little bit to reward yourself for overcoming challenges :joy:

Oh yes. I love the 2010s progressive metal stuff lol. Nolly Getgood is one of my favorite bassists and Periphery is one of my favorite bands of all time. I’m not quite there to learn songs from that band but I can slightly see it in the distance

FGN = Fujigen Gakki. They are one of the guitar manufacturers in Matsumoto (an area famous for it) and make excellent instruments. It’s not that they are “made in the same factory as” Ibanez or Fender, but rather that in the past they manufactured instruments for Ibanez, and currently they manufacture MIJ Fenders for Fender. Their main work, though, is making their own lines of outstanding quality midrange instruments.

I would take a Fujigen instrument over a MIA Fender any day of the week and feel confident in my choice. The current MIJ Fenders are also outstanding though Fender does kind of limit the parts choices for Fujigen a bit (they have to save something for the MIAs I guess).

I had a series of posts last year or so where I bought a MIJ Fender P-bass and ordered a ton of replacement electronics on the assumtpion that I could upgrade it, only when it arrived it already had great CTS pots, a huge orange drop, a better jack than I had ordered, and was soldered, shielded and grounded better than I could do. I was extremely impressed, and that’s an instrument Fujigen had made for some other company

I can relate to that, @BumbleJazz. For me, the shining beacon is the work of John Taylor, of Duran Duran, also a Dingwall artist. Some of the songs are hoving into view, providing I sit down and work on them!
