Crap. Now I realize I totally forgot to do that when I last changed strings! That’s the problem with using Elixirs. I have to change them so seldomly I forget how.

Got the bass back from the guitar tech this evening. It is now playable!! The neck is now flat, the action is good ‘n’ low all along the fretboard, and with rounds on it, it’s far nicer to play. I’m not really a fan of the feel of flats.

I’m certainly happier than I was a week ago!!

Only likely to matter on round core strings, although I can’t remember what elixirs are.

Yes, of course!

My strings always look like this:

(This is a string I have taken out for cleaning - you can see clearly where I have bent it 90° … of course before cutting).

Now, for (especially) flats I would not advise to cut the thicker part. Just try it - it will unwind after some time (this is 100% true for flats!).

This is purple haze. First bass I ever bought and was in rough shape. I’ve turned it into my learning bass on how to do repairs. I removed the puke green paint, stained her purple, new hipshot tuners, new nut, new bridge, new 1/4 pound Seymour Duncan pick ups, with ghs flatwounds.

Here’s the one I’m buying.

Where did you find this? Half-finished??

Wow, @TheMaartian - In wish that more manufacturers would do that.
I already looks great au naturel!!!
I can already see parts that I would install … but fretting it … hmmmm???

So, my collection has changed a bit. I sold a few, bought a few. My current collection is as follows:

  1. 2023 Fender MIM P - gotta have a nice P in the collection, and this one with Fender flats has the perfect vintage sound that works with just about any type of music. Also love the color w/ a tort PG.
  2. 2009 G&L JB2 Tribute - while I love a good jazz bass, I’ve never loved the body. This bass is the best of a J combined w/ the body of a P. I have Labella flats on this, and this may be my best sounding and playing bass in my collection. Not exactly as the same as a standard J as the pups are in a slightly different position, but close enough.
  3. 2017 Ibanez SR650 - the ultimate (IMHO) affordable combination of a P and a J, combined with an active preamp. Only made for a few years, this lightweight is probably my favorite player.
  4. 2021 Ibanez SR405 - my foray into the land of 5 strings. Got this as a parts bass from a friend (long story), cleaned it up, reassembled it and slowly learning how to play a 5. Very happy with it, and it’s almost as light as #3 above.

Very cool. I am very close to purchasing a used G&L JB2 Tribute

I love mine, maybe even more than my Fender.

Mayones short scale Comodous builds come from their custom shop. When I contacted them about buying one, Artur said that they had two builds in progress, and sent me photos of each (like he did with the Cali 4 and Cali 5 17"ers that I bought). I could have decided to go through a full design process, but I liked the one I posted and figured I would get it much faster. For reference, here is the one I didn’t choose.

Here’s the back of the one I did choose.

LOL I am sure Mayones is going to finish it for him

Mayones now makes their own pups and electronics. Since all of the cavities for their parts are finished, I didn’t ask about installing something different.
