Show Us Your Basses (Part 2)

Have a look at that Bass VI subreddit (yes I know, it is Reddit, but occasionally there is something useful)

And finally, with the strings on.

I think this thing was pretty well cared for. Only needed minimal setup, slight intonation on one string to the point that I haven’t bothered yet, truss rod is perfect, nut height is fine, and the action is okay, maybe a little high but not bad. It will need a pickup height tweak but no big deal. Love the humbuckers on this thing, sounds great.

Only thing I don’t love is the gloss painted neck. Really grippy on an otherwise lightning fast bass.

Scotch-Brite will solve that!

On transparent gloss finished natural wood necks this does not look bad. On a black gloss neck it might look turbo dumb, so no.

Beautiful. Well preserved too.

Well if you don’t like the glossy neck there’s always a baby powder options or the SuperGlide roll on.

I’ll get used to it

Really like the tone, these pickups are pretty awesome.

Yeah great clean mid bass for a shorter scale. One would think that it would have more sub bass. Very similar to Bartolini but a bit less nasally.

I haven’t pulled the cover off yet to verify but apparently it’s a quad-J. Two pairs of bright ceramic J pickups with each pair wired in reverse-polarity series as humbuckers.

Mine’s from January 1986, I wasn’t even legal when it was made

My 300 was from '86 also. I was in 2nd or 3rd grade when it was made. :sunglasses:

I like to take a fine polishing compound to my painted or glossy necks. It’s amazing how much of the stickiness goes away even when my hands sweat. Might ease the feel. Cool bass!

That’s not a bad idea, I might try that. Thanks!

Beautiful Spector. I love the way those look, I need to get my hands on one to see if I like how they feel too.

This is one of the last white Performer 4. Not sure if they will release a follow up in this price range.

Now a 2 bass owner… Older Washburn Taurus T-24 on the right, and the new hotness EBMM Stingray in red on the left.
