Yo B,
I have been working on everything 6 hours a day for the last week at least, today much lighter only about 1 hour with 1 or 2 more coming after this post. 80% of what I’m playing is above my pay grade… But its been a great week.
I’ve played YYZ 17 times in 3 days at 75% with sometimes at 83% speed, Its not perfect but personal %'s of timing, texture, the right notes at the right time are increasingly daily.
I’m mostly playing my Geddy jazz bass this last week on a Rush binge.
Some songs like most Steely Dan were recorded with a P bass and a jazz bass sounds like a jazz bass. I’m still playing SD this last week with the jazz but it sounds better when I use the P bass, that’s all that’s about.

Your right and that’s how I see it…
If I cant find the tone or exact sound for any song I’ll do the timing and technique thing which is always what its about no matter what it sounds like or the ghastly sounds I’m laying down.

Playing SD at least most of it but not all of it is like a warm up or cool down compered to YYZ, Tom Sawyer, Limelight, Red Barchetta, A Passage To Bangkok.
I’ve played those 5 Rush songs a lot lately.
Almost forgot = 2112 even skipping the non bass parts its around 15 minutes of playing time, 3 times a day.

@jimmyWishbone, I like Steely Dan a lot. Great music and musicians.

Picked up the BTB806MS yesterday and spent some quality time playing it.

It’s physically bigger than any of my other basses, here you can see it in relation to a 34" scale Warwick (sorry for the poor lighting):

Despite the physical size, it hangs well and is super comfortable to play. FAR better than the Warwick did before I relocated the rear strap pin. And, perhaps counterintuitively, I really like how wide the neck/fretboard is. I’ve got large mitts, and this fills my hand nicely, in a way that a ā€œchunkyā€ / deep P-style neck just doesn’t. I dig it.

The biggest thing to notice by far, though, is the string tension and clarity. The 37" scale length on the low B gives it a great feel, night and day over the 34" scale 5-strings I’ve tried, and it is useable, as it rings out very clearly.

Anyway, this thing sounds amazing and feels great. I even adjusted to the string spacing without too much effort.

Do I need a 6-string bass? Absolutely not! Do I love this one - hell yes!

Peaveys generally do. The older Peavey Patriot, T-40 and T- 20s were wider, more like a P, but still fairly shallow front to back.

I love Peavey basses, and had a Millenium JJ, a Fury P, a Foundation double Superferrite as well as The a 1987 Patriot. What got me off them was the super skinny necks. The Patriot is the only one I kept. It’s the easiest playing, smoothest bass I ever owned.

I really like this one, looks good and feels good, I may upgrade the pickups one day but am in no hurry.
Got it for $50 and rescued it from some dude’s shed.

Funny. My Patriot was also a $50 rescue.

I got halfway through B2B and then decided I needed a 5 string since most of the music I like either plays with a 5 string or in drop D. Being in Europe I bought a Harley Benton B550 with free shipping, but it came so badly set up that it was unplayable- so I hung it on it’s holder and ignored it. Life got in the way and I ignored the bass for a year whilst I got on with other stuff.
Today, I picked up my bass from the local guitar shop (where I took it for a set up) and the owner enthused about what a lovely bass it was and what a lovely neck it had.
Also included in the pictures is a cheapy Bluerock P bass that I started out with that had previously been professionally set up and plays lovely but needs a freshen up.

Yo! You guys! I have a confession - I joined this community and signed up for B2B last month before I even owned a single component.

Well…yesterday was my ā€œRalphie gets his Red Rider BB Gunā€ moment. After a few months of thinking on it and researching…

I walked into the local GC and made some salesman’s day: bought a Rumble 40, 10’ cable, Sony headphones, gear bag, tuner, stand, and…this girl, an Ibanez SR250E. In Soda Blue.

Super excited to finally own my own bass and officially start B2B!
