Just bought this TRB1004 after playing on a cheap Harley Benton SB20 for some time and the difference ist really night and day.
Nice Bass! Looks like someone didn’t do a nice job with winding the strings around the posts. It has hard to tell from the angle how many times the strings go around though?
E and A are wound 2 times, D and G are wound 4 times. It desperatly needs new Strings, so I’ll have to redo them anyway
Two winds is usually fine ![]()
No problem with any of those staying in tune, even the BB where I got a little short on the E and A strings there at about 1.5 winds.
It has arrived! The long sought after 2007 Week One Gibson SG Supreme (400 made). The original, awful, 3-point bridge (replaced with a Babicz) and an original pot were in the case with the bass. I don’t know what’s going on with the 3-way switch and what was changed/upgraded re the controls. I need to remove the control cavity cover and find out. I’m also going to replace the roundwounds that are on it with flats.
Nice! But even though I’m normally a flatwounds kind of guy, I’d leave rounds on this. The position of that neck pickup will make some mud with flats, methinks.
That’s why I think I’ll try a spare set of EB Slinky Cobalt flats on it.
For that bass, I’d recommend the Thomastik-Infeld JR364 Jazz Nickel Round Wound Electric Bass Strings Super Long Scale.
You will not be disappointed. In fact, far from it.
Fear not, cutting them to length won’t affect their tone or effectiveness.
Jack Bruce approved!
Picked up a Sire Marcus Miller P7 today these basses punch so far above their level it’s ridiculous. It may easily be my new go-to bass
Also including a family photo we are back to 6 again.
Finally got tapes on the Samick. Game changer. Reacquired my Peavey Grind 5. Gold strings need a good polish and the body will be refinished this summer.
I finally had a chance to put together a group shot of the revised lineup of my guitars and basses. From left to right, an old/cheap Mitchell acoustic, a 30th Anniversary reissue KH-3, an ESP LTD TA-604 FRX (tuned EADG), a Lignum Nate Navarro Sub Octave Bass (tuned E0, A0, D1, G1), a Spector NS Dimension 4 (tuned BEAD), and a Schecter Stiletto Studio-4 FL.
The Lignum and Spector are the new additions since my last post.
These are now the heaviest and lightest of my basses, weighing in at 4.51 kg (9.94 lb) and 3.695 kg (8.15 lb), respectively. Regarding the Lignum, I’m still waiting for the custom strap I ordered to go with the Mardi Gras theme, and it is sitting on a cello stand, because the normal hercules stands for basses and guitars are too short.
I think I should be able to stave off the GAS-guy for a while - at least for basses.
P.S., I’ve omitted the Fender PJ-555 as I will be offloading that one (once I find a good home for it).
Very nice looking family you have there.
Tapes are really really fun. I have a set of LaBellas and a set of D’Addario on basses, both so different but so cool.
Delicious color on the little Sub-octave, the inlays are just awesome.
Nice! I have become a Yamaha enthusiast, kind of accidentally. It seems impossible to go wrong with their stuff, even though they’re not considered one of the classic brands. Great value, great build quality, just plain solid. I also have a Yamaha acoustic guitar and a Yamaha Revstar. Hope you enjoy yours.
It happens ![]()
I appear to be addicted to Revstars. I am not even a good guitar player and I have on my fourth Revstar now.
I’m not even a guitar player an I want a Revstars, if I still have any credits when it comes to Gears, ![]()
In contrary to popular belief, I’m a huge Yamaha fan.
I mean you own at least five and those are just the ones I know of ![]()
Thats one more than me!
Hi Matty, great looking bass. I purchased a Sire U5 short scale (has same PJ pick-ups as your P7) last year, got set up & flats on & love it. Hardly play my westone thunder any more.
Also purchased more recently Sire Larry Carlton semi hollow guitar, really taken by how great these Sire guitars are.
Keen to try the P7 sometime, cheers
