Sadly i don’t know @Chris_J well enough to do the joke. But I really wanted to…

I’ve actually found a few cases where I like it (like on your Comanche). But…

yeah we’re just going to have to have a friendly disagreement on this one

Right on, @Al1885. Tort is a classic. Full stop.

The originals created it and used it, and it lives on on the basses that made music that created music for generations.

Like it or not, tort abides.

Like it, use it, hate it, ignore it. :joy:

Unless it’s your bass, it just doesn’t matter.

Thanks for all the nice comments, everyone!

I really hadn’t intended a new “tort discussion”, but I was reckless, I know

Tort is what it is and it might stay on this bass (I was merely airing the thought of trying a black one…). Thing is, I do already have another tort on one of my fav basses (though a fairly low-key version), so I shouldn’t be shouting too loudly about all this

It was more that the whole package of the RKM wasn’t optically appealing to me to begin with… but it is growing on me. And, yes, there is the bass’s provenance, and I should probably not mess with it. Also, the whole “gift horse” thing as well…

Thanks - that helped in figuring it out!

Haha… not anytime soon

YouTube picked up on my Seymour Duncan SPB-2 Hot searches and offered me this oldie this morning. It’s an excellent tone demo of all of the different Seymour Duncan P bass pickups at the time of recording 8 years ago. I like the sound of the SPB-2 Hot. I actually prefer it over the SPB-3 Quarter Pounder.

Hey my man! The Dingwall is my fav for sure. But for Sunday worship I recently noticed when I watched a replay that it REALLY cuts through everything like butter- which I like- except I hit a wrong note haha- so now I’m gun-shy. And yes- the Flea! I am getting to know Flea better so trying to use it as a temp #1. I can dial the Dingwall down tone wise- but dialing the Flea down sounds a little better to me right now. And the Flea playability is awesome too. They are both extremely playable though. So two great basses. The JT was so shocking to me (in a good way) playing and tone-wise (love the Neve pre-amp). Flea is just a little less complex knob -wise. Trying to find a way to integrate 80s Duran Duran bass into worship music:) Enjoy the super-versatility of the JT my friend. It can be anything you want:)

Exactly. Tort plus a bad Fender burst is hard to beat.

Only the missing ashtrays could make this better

Scored this on A Flash Flood of Gear. They were asking $1,295. I offered $1,222 and Alex took it. Delivered it was about $1,400. These are custom Made in USA, in Orlando, FL. The action is low and the neck is killer. Didn’t even know metalic gold burst was a thing. Apparently Starr Guitars is known for amazing finishes.

Emailed Kip Elder, the luthier and founder of Starr Guitars. He told me they don’t make bass guitars anymore. But told me if I were to order one like this it would be over $3K.

The only thing I want to change is to put a pearloid pichguard on it. But maybe I will keep it stock.

Does anyone else have a Starr Guitars bass? I feel super lucky not only to find one, but to get it for about $1,400. I mean, damn! Even the neck is figured maple.

Same here. I like tortoise - and it looks pretty good on that bass.

I sold my Ibanez SR 300E, which I bought before starting the course, and bought this wonderful Fender Player II Limited Edition Moonlight Drive as a graduation gift to myself. I was hesitant about the color—blue isn’t really my color—but in person it turned out to be very deep and beautiful. The neck is roasted maple and the pickups are Seymour Duncan, which is unusual to see on a $1,000 Fender. I’m incredibly happy with it!

That is a very nice blue.

I got this as my first bass, and I don’t know a a whole lot about it. I really cant find a whole lot about it online. I just picked it up, played it and I liked it. I am assuming its a Cort GB94. It says Gb 94 on the back. I really like natural/ blonde colors so that factors in why I got it.

If it’s anything like my Cort I bet it’s a breeze to play. Enjoy
