They are about ¥10000 here ($65) but very difficult to find. I would say the flats are rare here and the rounds super rare. They are available now though at soundhouse (basically Japan’s much worse version of Sweetwater).
Yeah, shit. I haven’t had to shop for any in years.
TIs do go on sale a few times of year, but now apparently isn’t one of those times
65 bucks is the lowest I’ve ever paid. That’s a great deal for TI Jazz Rounds. But the JR364 set is the heavier gauge (101-43). They’re the ones I dig, and they’re likely a tad more than the JR344 set.
NYXL 's typically go on sale for $22.99 usually in April (they were just on short while ago) and the xmas season. Good times to stock up. I’ve been eyeing TI long scale rounds for a while but can’t justify the cost.
The thing is, TI Jazz strings last a damn long time. So, over time, the amortized cost is on par with standard strings.
That said, I realize it’s a leap of faith. But cheaper in the short run isn’t always cheaper in the long run. And I’ve changed way too many strings in my lifetime to want to do it more often.
If that’s the only thing then it’s all good, but the bad news, for everyone else, is Ti Jazz flats feels smoother and sounds better overtime. At least to my experience.
You’re absolutely correct. The great sound and especially the smooth feel of TI Jazz strings are the very best aspects of their worth. That goes hand in hand with their longevity, which, in total, equals their overall value.
Yes, they cost more than most production strings but, damn, how they feel, sound and play make the spend more than worth their price, at least, to me.
I keep checking every so often, I’m waiting to catch the TI rounds on sale. I’ve been seeing them for $90 - $100 so $111 is a real bummer. I love the Elixir’s so I’m having a tough time justifying ponying up twice that for the TI’s. If I could catch a sale though, where they’re $70 ish or so, I’d probably grab a set and throw them on my new BB (even though I’ve got a set of Nanowebs ready to go for when the EXL’s wear out).
Well there’s still a lot of zing left on my TI Rounds but as soon as it greased up, it will lose the “roundedness” but the Flats just gets that benefit.
Absolutely, it holds true. TI Jazz Rounds use the smallest gauge windings of any round wound strings, without a doubt. They feel super-smooth and fast.
I have TI Jazz Flats on my Cutlass only. My other basses are all TI Jazz Rounds.
While I am a big fan of the TI rounds, they aren’t necessarily the best for everyone (‘s playing style). The “easiest” to find are the JR344 and they are very light in gauges and thus might not suit players who want to dig in a bit more or play with a pick a lot.
For my way of playing fingerstyle, they are perfect.
(The 5-string version is really hard to find, though…)
TI Jazz Round JR345 strings for a fiver are readily available in the US. The lowest current price I found is $138.
I play with a very light fingerstyle touch, but the standard gauge/length TI round strings are too light and flexible for my taste. That’s why I only use their super long (36 inch, 43-101) versions, cut down to fit my 34-inch scale length basses.
Yeah, it is. Especially just to see if I like them. I think I’ll just stick with my nanowebs for now. Less than half the price, I’m going on 9 or so months on them and I don’t feel like they need to be replaced yet.
