Show Us Your Basses (Part 2)

@faydout you say something about a large collection of lefties?

They had one of these on the shelf at the lefty specialist I visited in Tokyo at the back of last year. It really is beauty.

That’s cool. So often I see a bass I immediately fall in love with only to discover the crushing truth it is RH only. I’ve waited so long for one like this. It makes me so happy.

I saw a Mercalli and had to try it. Didn’t expect to like it as much as the Triad but I think I like it more. (It’s not a short scale it just looks smaller because of the different stands). I have some black hipshot tuners with xtender on my BB234 I might move over to the Mercalli

Ooh, I was looking at that J1 too. Did you talk the seller down to a more reasonable price?

Sure did. Much lower. And not through reverb so no sales tax either. Woot

The JB•2’s classic Alnico V pickups have tone reminiscent of the best examples from the early ‘60s, thanks to the work of Paul Gagon, G&L VP Engineering. Gagon found his inspiration reviewing original prints stored in Leo Fender’s private laboratory at G&L, but that was just the start. About 30 years ago, Gagon was an R&D; engineer at another company when he was tasked with finding out what was so special about the early bolt-on basses many players raved about.

@Al1885 Noticed that the pickups seemed different than the JB-1 and managed to stumble across the above. They are both 92.4mm in width and have an EDM finish on the covers. (Apparently Fender is still paying the electricity bill in the G&L server room)

Amazing! Sorry, if this was addressed above, but did that ship from Japan, or was it for sale in the States?

It is truly impressive and I’m in absolute awe with your collection more importantly your taste. @John_E you are the Man!

Is that TI Jazz flats on the 5 string?

Anyways I’m on the hunt for the BB2004 in white. There’s a Verdine White bass for sale with gold hardware like the BBNE2 for $10k locally but I’m not that big of a fan to score that one, :joy: let me know if one come across your feed.

Man that’s the beefiest bridge I’ve ever used. Leo savagely over engineered this bridge it’s 2x Leo Quan’s BadAss bridge.

I have all kinds of Jazz basses and pickups. My 2 favorite are the big poles Delano and of course the low magnetized EMG for the polar opposite reason. The rest while fun they are not very memorable. :joy: the MFD is extra fun also.

Actually came from Taiwan!

Thanks, I really love the Japanese basses, they are so much better quality and just full of character.

The strings on the 5 are GHS Boomers 5M-DYB.

I do need to put the TI flats on one of my basses. I have them, just have not figured out which bass to convert yet.

Nothing succeeds like excess, huh?

It was new, it was a long scale, it was a J Bass, and the price was right, which is just about all I knew when I purchased it. I become happier about it all the time.

My first bass was a used Hofner C-2

Awesome @John_E I love the SBV shape.

Idle thought. Seeing as most of our significant others have no interest in bass.

How about a few of us who are friends on here ie @JerryP @howard etc. Knock up a quick will amendment so in the event of our unfortunate passing we get each others cool bass gear.

Is it the stupidest idea you’ve heard this year?

I’ve actually thought about this

Unfortunately, no.

I like it! Or at least partially.

I’ve left instructions in will docs on where to sell all my stuff for maximum value so my daughter benefits the best way possible.

That said, a couple surprise giftings would be a lot of fun - “GAS from beyond the grave”

FYI - My wife works and makes more than me - she can live off her shoes and handbags, not my instruments lol

@howard i gotta tell you - the sound from these J pickups on the J1 just blew me away. And it’s got old rusty strings. There is some special sauce in this config - even better than the double P. Clean clear crisp and loads of low end you wouldn’t expect per se. Very impressed.

now to decide on strings - hmmmm

I was thinking, just one cool thing like an SBV or in my case a Baum Wingman :face_with_monocle:

@MikeC will be my curator and receive my Caprice bass to complete his twins collection, I even put his favorite string set on, and actively breaking them in for him. I’d also bother @booker_t to do the same locally and just take a pick of your favorite from my shed.

There, it’s official :joy:
I’m serious.
