Okay here are mine. The one in the middle is my Fender American Pro II PBass and the ones on the left and the right are my “twins” (Fender Player PBass upgraded with a Fender high mass bridge, Hipshot Tuners, and EMG Geezer Butler pickups). Yes they’re the same…

Love the checkerboard.

Lol heck yeah! I have been through many of basses, but found out that I’m a PBass guy. I use the twins for gigging and the Pro II for recording. I really don’t need anything else.

My favorite of Steve Harris’ P bass incarnations was the checkerboard one. Too bad they never released it as a signature model

Tastefully understated color that aged really well. Congrats @booker_t

My wife has been showing interest in learning bass as of late. The other day, I get a text from her as she’s shopping that said “If there was a bass that had this exact color I would start learning to play”.

O rly?

By the time she got home I had already ordered her guitar and 2 days later handed her this:

Looks a bit darker in that photo but the color is near exact. She’s thrilled and is having a ton of fun learning to play it. There’s been a long running joke in our house that I could get my wife interested in anything if I can find it in the right shade of pink. Time and time again it’s proven to be true (pink golf clubs, pink Warhammer 40K Space Marines, etc).

Guitar is a Squire Jazz in “Burgundy Mist” color. I guess that sounds better than “metallic pink-ish purpley”.

This is my Ricky (or Fakey) that i build myself from a kit found online! I’ve modify the body so i could insert the original pickup and other part (like the bridge) which was not included in the kit (the bridge is not original but from Allparts, which is cool anyway)

I’ve decided to go all in with a set of flatwound from fender, i love them! With the right setup i get Arctic Monkeys vibes (Nick O’Malley plis notice me :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:)
I have to say I’m finding it a lot versatile as a bass, and for playing Alternative songs like Arctic Monkeys and Franz Ferdinand it’s a marvel!

Where did you find the kit mate?

Hi man @Gloucestre !

I found it on The Guitar Fabric
They have a bunch of DIY kits for guitars and basses, they don’t cost much, but obv if you want them to play good you do have to modify a lot of stuff, they are still a DIY kits by who knows who.

I’ve done my fair share of carving and sweting for fear it would all break into a thousand pieces

They look good, you got a “Rick” pickguard I assume- did you shape the headstock too?
How do the stock pickups sound?
Not afraid of kits, I have done a 5 string from a kit, a parts fretless and even a flintlock pistol back in the day

Well @Gloucestre if you are more than inclined to DIY then you can go easy
I made the pickguard myself, and it was agony ahahah, as was the truss rod cover.
I took the stock pickguard and truss rod cover and contoured it into a sheet of ply and afterwards cut it with a lot of patience with the dremel.
Fortunately the headstock was already all set up, although they could have done a better job in placing the holes for the tuning keys.

I never used stock pickups, went straight to more quality stuff
I bought from the UK the original bridge pickup, while in the neck I got a handmade pickup from retrovibe, which makes really really nice, quality stuff
The keys are from Schaller which should be the same as the Rickenbacker only his are branded. The 3 way switch is original and the pots are from allparts

Fortunately for the wiring I found a guy who made a clear and understandable diagram even for people like me who have never done anything like this before
Then for the colors I used all products from nitorlack, which I was curious to try!

Cheers, it will likely be a kit or an Aliexpress job for me then

I asked @booker_t how I could be more like him. He said a high protein diet and many hours at the gym. That sounded like a lot of work, so instead I picked up this Fodera Yin Yang III Standard

Holy shite!!! :star_struck:

HUGE congrats, man! That particular Yin Yang model is my fave Fodera. Have loads of fun!

And, of course, feel free to send it to me to babysit while you go on vacay (the longer, the better!). I will caress it, whisper sweet nothings in its pups, and feed it bonbons.
