I would fully expect the bass to be made properly.
Wow, that is a fine looking bass. Blacked out to the max.
Welcome to the forum!
Love the straps!
I’ve got both of them too. Lol
Excellent strap co-ordination foo!
And again!
That blue one is gorgeous.
I think I saw it in the other Show Us Your Basses thread. It was clear that I needed it when I saw it.
Love the straps? Love the double P Marcus Miller and the 51. Wow.
Not a Marcus Miller. It’s an FGN.
Yeah the Pickguard reminds me of Marcus Pickguard lol.
It is indeed an FGN Mighty Power from Japan, very well built bass, sporting two Fender PV 63 pickups. On the front pickup you get a vintage P sound, rolled off to the back pickup you get a honk (well, a little honk), and together you get a warm punch that only a double P delivers. It’s a keeper
Absolutely. It’s like a tribute to it.
Hanging around with you guys (girls) is not “good.” Never thought I’d say this. I want one.
I just missed buying that one, but Wombat was quicker on the trigger.
There are others out there, Booker. Just gotta order one from a Japan store.
The build quality is on par with a Fender MIA bass, FGN in fact builds many Fender MIJ basses, just as an example, the cavities are all painted with shielding paint and each cavity has a screw with a wire going back to ground on a pot. The attention to detail is high. When I went to swap pickups I opened it up and had 5 or 6 wires on ground, and was like what?
Yeah, not helping. I know
Yep. Let me know if you need help looking. I love enabling GAS
NBD!!!
Finally received my Fender Aerodyne Dimarzio from Japan.
I got a pretty good deal on it but was sure it would need some repair… the seller had listed it as needing work and cautioned that it had been sitting for a long time unplayed.
As it turns out… it is just absolutely filthy. The original gig bag has some mold on the outside but the bass is completely without any physical damage, the truss Rod turns easily, and all it needs is a lot of elbow grease. This one is a keeper I think.
Anyone have any advice on the best way to really clean a fretboard?
Thanks in advance.
For rosewood many fretboard oils have cleaners and conditioners in them and you can just use them, just scrub it with a little oil on a clean rag. Convenient since you should be doing this periodically anyway.
For one instrument I actually used some ethanol first and then followed with oil immediately. The ethanol will really dry things out so I do not necessarily suggest this, but it did help with the gunk. If you oil immediately afterwards it should be fine. I would say this is an extreme measure.
With rosewood, if it’s really bad you can hit it with high grit abrasives and go with the grain - I use very fine nail buffers for this but others should be fine too. I would recommend no lower than 2000 grit for this. These work amazing for polishing the frets too. This is another thing I am not necessarily suggesting but it worked well for me. Then immediately follow with scrubbing with some oil.
But really, just fretboard oil and scrubbing should be fine like 90% of the time.
