Nice, fits that new bass beastly!
Have been digging the Italia straps - the grippy 4" leather really does help spread the load out. So much so that I don’t even miss the extra padding like I thought I might. These are super comfortable and I’m expecting that they’ll get even better once they wear in a little.
Wow! It looks amazing! Great job!
The first strap I got was a simple nylon strap, which had no grip and my bass was sliding down with a neck dive. So I tried to find a good and larger strap, with a better grip, but it wasn’t easy because the music stores I visited didn’t have anything for a woman of my height (I’m 5.22 ft, or 159 cm). All the famous bassists that love to play with a bass hanging low almost at knee level might also be a reason why so many straps are so long. The shorter ones were all nylon straps.
Then I had an idea: many leather straps are made of two parts: the larger and longer one that will go over the shoulder, and a smaller one that is looped around 2 of the slits of the other. At the stores they were saying those were too long for me, but they just didn’t have enough imagination!
I bought a suede leather strap, and I simply removed the shorter part, and instead of looping it around just 2 slits, I threaded it around all the slits and made it loop in the back somewhere around the middle. This is easier to understand if you look at the pictures. This is a good thing to know, if you are looking for a shorter strap of this kind but can’t find it. It wasn’t necessary to make new holes, and by trying different ways of threading, I got it to the perfect length!
I wanna share too! Here are my straps.
Thalia 2.5” wide leather strap. I have 2 in FL and 2 in IN.
A dragon and the obligatory lightning bolt. ![]()
Very nice! ![]()
I wonder, has anyone here figured out a way to improve the grip of cheap nylon straps? I use my nylon strap now on my very light semi-hollow bass, but it still neck dives, because the strap slides across my shoulder.
I have some ideas, but I don’t know would they work. Has anyone here tried adding some grippy material to the underside of the strap? Like, a silicone tape/ribbon/adhesive etc? Or making a zigzag or lines of hot glue or silicone glue, which upon drying could add grip to the nylon strap?
I feel my semi-hollow bass is so light, that it would be a waste of money to buy the same kind of leather strap I bought for my Squier jazz bass. The nylon strap would be perfect for it, if it could be improved a bit. ![]()
Straps don’t have to be expensive. LM is good quality and has some budget friendly ones
Is that a Flash emblem?
You could perhaps add a car seatbelt cover:
But it’s getting less cheap now. Interesting thought with the silicone and/or hot glue!
If it is, it wasn’t intentional. I got it to represent the electricity flowing through the bass. lol
I used anti slip grip tape on a leather strap that was sliding around.

I feel you on straps being too long! That was the inciting incident in why I got crafting. As far as the slipping issue if you can get your hand on some suede leather scraps you can always make a sleeve that goes over the nylon strap. That’s what I did with mine, I just fancied it up and added padding!
That looks very nice!
Interesting idea! But it is possible the seatbelt cover would stay in place on my shoulder but the nylon strap would slide back and forth inside it.
It is so slippery!
Thanks, Barney! I’ll see what I can find around here. Something like that could work!
Your strap looks so awesome! Does the sleeve stay in place, or did you sew it to the strap?
It also looks like the orange lightening from the BassBuzz logo! ![]()
The friction of all the layers under the weight of the bass keeps it from shifting around. If you’ve got a bass with more neck dive tho sewing is totally an option!
