Nicely done John! Love the growl you’re getting on the low notes.
Thanks. Yeah the Rick and the SVT amp mode in the VT Bass DI play nice together for sure.
This song is near to my heart. Was one of the first guitar riffs I ever learned and I gotta say I enjoy playing it on bass more.

Really great job here @dlamson13 !
Nice tone too.
It is a fun song to play for sure.
Recorded this one a bit ago, but I did not have time to post… I’m not playing as much lately, I still lurk in the forum…
@Reo - Something seems wrong here.
Did you miss the drop tuning?
E string seems dropped properly but the other 3 don’t sound like they were dropped.
Tuning on this is DGCF
Huh?… you are correct sir, I only drop the E, I didn’t realize that… no wonder it didn’t sound right, I thought that it was the effects… I’ll have to go back and try that tuning instead
Thanks!
Alright so yesterday I quickly whip this video together, plenty of mistakes but proper tuning, certainly sounds different, duh!
That’s when reading the music would have been helpful instead of just the tab, I could have also double check since I knew something was off… I am keeping that other one up also, as reference
Considering that I had not practice the song since recording it back in August, I was surprised to be able to play it whole fairly easily, blemishes granted specially at the end there is progress after all
Something is now even more off with the tuning @reo. Even the low E string.
Yeah sorry @Reo that sounds off to me as well
Really? more off tuning.? I am using the same bassless track as most of us (I think) and I verified the tuning this time… I guess I will stick to standard tuning then
Could you tell off tuning in the crossfire one?? I recorded that in between these two, just wondering if there’s something else (different tuning of course but, I don’t know that getting DGCF using a digital tuner shouldn’t be that hard to obtain)
Thanks guys
It definitely doesn’t sound like this.
Hey man, that’s why we are here. Post stuff and if it’s off you will get the help you need to fix it.
Crossfire is down a HALF step- EbAbDbGb - and yours sounds fine
Come as you are is down a WHOLE step - DGCF, another half step lower than crossfire.
I slowed this down and got out my tuner to see if I could figure out the issue.
During the pre-chorus (22222222555555550 etc your notes are F, Ab and Eb - which means your E string is tuned to Eb and not D.
The very last note (9 on the second “A” string) is sounding as an F and should be an E.
This means you are tuned to EbAbDbGb and not DGCF.
Keep cranking those tuners down another half step.
You can if you want, that’s what I did. If you start the main riff at the 5th fret of the A string instead of the 7th. You have to shift things around a little in the chorus and pre-chorus, and you won’t have the low D, but he only hits it a few times. I had to reach up an octave for those, but close enough in my opinion.
it certainly doesn’t sound the same
@John_E thanks for taking the time to do that… I will play with the tuner again, I must be ignoring something
all right mates, I think that it’s in tune now
sounds MUCH better, and great timing.
I can ‘sort of’ play this on my bass uke, but the extra spacing on the bass hurts my fingers!
I just finished #2, so I’ve got a ways to go before I hit this one.
There it is!!!
Well done @Reo
Nice job! way to keep at it.
