Song 8 - "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" by Hank Williams

Tnx:-)

This song is not my cup of tea, which I think you can see on my face…

I have some timing errors, which is disappointing. Further proof that every song requires concentration and ‘feel’ for every note :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

this comes with…yup - practice (or, time).
These songs are designed to keep you learning different aspects. Slow songs like this demand great timing as you are very exposed.

that said, I thought you did really well.
Nothing stood out terribly

Here is my recording.
I don’t think anyone ever got excited about this song, but on we go.
I still have so much to learn about recording the audio and syncing with the video, but it’s getting better!
Happy to get any input.

I wasn’t going to do a second song today but this one is really simple to learn.

I got a pack of picks yesterday having never played bass with a pick before so why not add an extra level of challenge? I’ve always found using a pick really difficult with other instruments, so I avoid them, I guess that’s why I started playing bass.

Something sounds off with this song, I guess because it was recorded in 1949. I’m sure my bass is in tune.

I think the pick threw off your timing a bit here and there. And I can see you ‘overpicking’, but since you just started using it on this song - I would also say damn impressive! Took me quite a bit to get a pick comfortable in my hand, now I like it as much as plucking.

Overall good job. Nice experimenting with where you picked too!

By overpicking do you mean strumming too hard?

Yeah, the pick throws my timing completely off. Also I have to stare at the strings to actually hit the right one.

Too big of a movement. Seems exaggerated. Means takes more time to get back to the next string. This will tighten up in time with practice.

Ahh that makes sense.

I don’t plan on practising with picks at all until I finish the course (I’m on module 11) but when I’m done, I’d like to focus on it so I’ll try to think about making smaller movements.
