Songsterr Speculation

I’ve been using Songsterr to look at bass tabs, and while I appreciate its simplicity and the way it displays tabs on the beat ruler (love that beat ruler), I’m curious if there are other resources out there that might be even better. I’m also interested if anyone prints out songs, and how that goes.

I enjoy reading music, so I really value resources that show timing and rhythm clearly alongside the tabs. I find it helps me keep everything locked in, both rhythmically and melodically.

Does anyone have a go-to resource they swear by for bass tabs? Bonus points if it’s a good mix of accuracy and ease of use.

Thanks in advance for sharing your favorites! :guitar:

Songsterr shows advanced tabs … with the rhythm notation below the tab staff.

So if things are 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 notes … you will know.

Not all tabs may have it… but the functionality is there… and most of the tabs I have used, have included it.

This is my method mostly.

Not everyone’s cup of tea, but I prefer it to Songsterr…

Ultimate Guitar Official tabs are pretty solid, for the most part. Subscription though, but catch it at the right time at it’s like $25/yr.

I’ve been using Guitar Pro since v5. The v7 upgrade was a big step forward, but the recent v8 release added some really great new features, like including an audio backing track in the GP file. GP also provides the MySongBook service which includes a lot of high quality tabs WITH notation for the chosen instrument (bass in our case). You can access MySongBook from GP’s opening page. There’s one free daily tab (of their choice), but you can buy either a subscription (good if you use a lot of their tabs) or credits (one per tab). Credits are $/€ 2 each or you can buy a pack of 20 credits for $/€ 20. That’s what I do.

Yeah, me too

Yeah I like guitar pro too. I like the buying model than subscriptions. Same goes to mysongbook buying is better. I did the subscription promo but in the end just stick with buying songs if needed.

My only gripe is the audio sync is not available on iOS.

I’m considering trying the Guitar Pro tabs using the credits model, but I have to point out that the daily ‘free’ tab is a bit disingenuous at best; yes, it’s free, but you cannot print it or download it. So you’ve either got to copy it out manually or learn it by heart in one day!

Thanks for pointing that out. The reason I didn’t know that? I’ve never tried to use one of their freebies.

Yeah, I was thinking it was a great idea but rarely saw a tune I wanted, but when I did I found I couldn’t save or print it. You can page through it taking screenshots, but that’s about it.

I use songsterr and can print scores out without a subscription.
My absolute favourite is Tomplay. However you have to subscribe and there is not so many bass scores as some other apps. But it’s fab as you get a choices between tabs and notes, just notes and just tabs. You can print any of these configurations. It comes with full band options and you can isolate all the tracks and adjust the tempo.

I finally sub’d Tomplay after several recommendations from Tatiana Riabinkina. If they have songs you want to learn, it’s a great resource.

:+1::guitar: Good choice.

How do you print out scores from Songsterr without a sub?

Yeah, good question. I don’t know/ can’t remember. I think maybe from the desktop version rather than the app. Let me check it later and I’ll let you know.
