Studio Headphones for Amp 2025

Hi everyone,

I would love some pointers for your fav. wired studio headphones for 2025 that will plug directly into an amp for home practice.

Bonus points if they also work well for an electronic drum kit.

(I did search the forum, but there was nothing current. Sorry I this is not OK).

Audio Technica M50x are kinda neat, particularly with the range of optional lead styles and lengths.

I bought the A70 by OnOdio. Plugs into my Vox, but also plugs into my husband’s amp when he uses his. Also Bluetooth so you can use them to listen to music or talk on the phone.

My trusted Sennheiser HD 280 pro is my first choice especially for E-drums. I also use OneOdio which is excellent as well, love the convenient of just one cable that can do 1/4" and 3.5mm just by switching ends.

I can highly recommend a pair of Sony MDR7506. They are a steal for the price. I’ve used both the 7506 and their predecessor, the MDRV6 for over 30 years as an audio engineer. They’re indestructible, comfortable and have a ridiculously long coiled cord. The frequency response is fairly flat, with just a bit of a bump in the low end and a bit at the top end which is great for a bass. For under $100.00 U.S. they’re hard to beat.

This would be excellent for you as well. I love V-Moda. their tuning is excellent for bass and drum playing.

You can usually find one for less than $150. Here’s one for $135

it comes with 2 cables medium and long.

Yep. They are, in fact, the most common studio monitor of all time.

I recently sold my 15 year old pair of MDR-V6 for almost as much as I paid for them. People love them.

I’ve had the same pair of MDR-7506 headphones for almost 30 years now. They’ve been through three sets of ear pads, but they still sound great. I use them for bass playing at least a couple times a week.

I also use the Sony 7506 and really enjoy them. I tried the One Odio, can’t recall which model, and they were pretty awful.

I have quite a few pair and love 'em
