Team sports: Fan or Meh?

I like the ones where they beat each other up.

I love Ryder Cup.

We’re somewhat Rugby fans. Of all sports, it is the one I have found most enjoyable to watch.

Currently, the best sports tournament is going on: the Six Nations Rugby tournament.

It is what it sounds like. 6 national teams: Scotland, Ireland, Wales, England, France and Italy. 3 matches each weekend. Every team plays every other team. Points are awarded.

Perfect sized tournament, because it’s enough teams to be interesting, but not too many to keep track of. Get to see some great teams, and some less good teams.

We’ve become fans of Italy, because they were the serious underdogs when we first started watching but played with so much heart, and did better than everyone said they were going to. And they have just gotten better every year.

I’ve enjoyed playing several team sports. And, for a long time I enjoyed watching various sports I was into at the time, from football, to baseball, to hockey. But these days when I think of the opportunity cost of parking in front of the TV and watching a single game, let alone religiously following it - there’s just no way. I have ZERO interest.

I’m still hooked on F1 though, he said hypocritically.

And I agree with @howard , live sports are altogether different and for me it’s all about the experience. The first time I watched Bayern Munich play a home football match - OMG my American mind was blown at the intensity of the fans. It was palpable.

Totally. Baseball and soccer are amazing sports to go see here. Plus, Beer Girls.

Hmm I got dragged to a baseball game once. It was like cricket, but more boring.

Maybe Japanese baseball is better :man_shrugging:

it is, crazy crowd energy. Super fun.

Oh man what a game. Mack with the game winner. Three of my Avs guys on Canada’s top unit.

I was sweating for most of the 3rd period.

They’re getting stronger every year. I swear they climb a rank every year or two.

This year, they look positioned to come in third in the tournament. They beat Scotland. And Scotland walked over England badly.

Wales is going to get the wooden spoon by a wide margin.

30 minutes in, England has conceded more tries/point to Ireland than Italy did in full time.

I expect France to sweep it, but I’m looking forward to seeing how Italy does against them. I swear Italy plays their hardest up against France. They would have won a couple years ago if the wind hadn’t knocked the ball off the tee on that penalty kick.

Crap. USA/Canada sounds like it was an amazing finish and I missed it.

Apparently MacKinnon missed on an empty net from 5 feet away. Like one of the best scorers in the NHL whiffs an easy point. Crazy. @faydout is probably drinking, gonna be some serious awkward talking for the Avs.

I need to catch the replays, holy crap.

I got up early this AM and watched the whole game. Great defense to keep both teams in the game. Hellebuyck is the reason why the game went to OT which allowed USA to get the OT goal.

I think the 3 on 3 for olympic OT is BS… It is too wide open for such an important determination. It need to be the same as Cup playoffs- 5 on 5 in til someone scores.

Totally.

You also know it’s a good game when both teams are 4 in at the same time because of alternating sticks to the face

Well, they tried hard, but it looks like the Trophy will stay in France

By the way, I’m always impressed when games are played in closed roof stadiums :exploding_head:

Lol, I’m not much of a drinker thankfully. I’m sure Mack and Nelson are going to be just fine. What I’d worry about is that Nate is going to come out of angry. Avs fans like angry Nate, he plays his best hockey with a chip on his shoulder. If we can ride that to another cup, I’ll get drunk at the parade.

Nah, he was all good after receiving that stoat furry thingy…LOL

I gotta find at least a highlight reel of this game but when there’s 41 shots on goal blocked in 45 mins it’s gonna be a long one

Lots of blocked shots but it was a quick paced game. Canada kept the ice tilted to the us end for the majority of the game. Mackinnon was right, if tou watched the game there was no doubt who the better team was. Hellebyuck just had the game of his life. That’s how it goes sometimes.
