Team sports: Fan or Meh?

Sorry, but anytime someone mentions Bryz this clip has to be posted. It’s a law or something.

And this one is just fun…

Can I recommend a documentary about people chasing balls?

Next Goal Wins is a 2014 documentary about the American Samoa football team who were the worst ranked international team in the world. It’s a fantastic story and a great film that you don’t need an interest in football to enjoy, just an interest in humans.

Avoid the 2023 comedy with the same name that was based on this doc though.

The other Ilya Bryzgalov. I never knew which one would show up on game day.

I checked all of my streaming accounts and none of them have the documentary. Prime has the movie, but you’re right, it sucked. Not gonna fool me twice. Too bad about the docu.

I just checked Amazon.fr and found a new copy of the DVD for 3,06 € + 3,00 € shipping, so I bought it.

Yep, this is what playoff hockey is about, eh?

To me, the “regular season” are just exhibition games… the playoffs are the REAL season… with real OT, none of this 4on4 or shootout crap.

The NHL has changed the game so much to cater to the uneducated hockey “fan.”

It was probably due to the European style game.

I hated the 3on3 at first but it isnt that bad and thankfully not part of the playoffs. Shootouts have me clicking or walking the dogs.

I am hoping Taylor Hall hoists the cup. Vegas will get the same treatment that the Habs just received. I am putting money on a sweep.

I really dislike Vegas for all of the games where they crushed my Coyotes. But I have huge respect for the people behind the team that did the original draft when Vegas entered the league. They were competitive from the get-go and won the Cup early. They have pretty much remained competitive these years since their founding.

Don’t underestimate them. I’d love to see the Canes win the cup, but I’m going to bet that will take at least six games. A Game 7 in N.C. would be an awesome event.

And Taylor Hall? It’s taken me several years to get over how poorly he played the year he was with the Coyotes. Not all his fault, but the energy level he displayed in the playoffs this year has to be applauded. He’s such a talented player. When he’s engaged, he’s really effective.

Taylor was great for a bit in Boston but without real talent around him tends to zone out. I suspect he will finish his career with the Whalers (Canes).

Vegas stiffed Cassidy so it is hard for me to be a fan. While he lost the room it is still a shitty deal to be denied talking to other teams looking for a coach. He has enough money already I assume. Would love to see him with another team.

I only have time to watch one sport, so I watch the Penski team cars in NASCAR and sometimes Indy.

F1 racing for my wife and me, though I admit the racing is closer and therefore more interesting in Indy when they race road courses. I never could get into roundy-round racing, though I gave it a fair shot. My dad loves his NASCAR.

I actually like all auto racing but I limit my time watching it. We moved from Florida to Mooresville NC when I was kid. Growing up there kind of anchored me into the NASCAR world. The funny thing is, most of my friends back there don’t pay it any attention.

Yeah, I could see how that could happen living in Mooresville! Had a buddy a while back who was a driver for one of these outfits where you pay to get to drive a few laps. He took us out for some laps at CMS - that’s some serious banking! That was a lot of fun. Those Cup cars are no joke, even older and detuned as the ones they have were.

I drove the Petty Experience in 2001 or 2. My exwife won it at a chemistry convention. I had to do it at a track they had at Disney in Orlando, it was nontransferable, I wanted to do it at Charlotte. I did post the fastes speed that day though!

Same. Motorsports are the only sport I follow, and I’d watch it all if I could, but I only have time to watch maybe a few races a week. My mains are F1, IndyCar, and MotoGP, and I try to at least keep up with WRC, WEC, Australian Supercars, and F2.

I’m not so much into NASCAR anymore, but in the mid-90’s I did go to school in Daytona and worked the front desk of a hotel where a lot of drivers stayed. Richard Petty was a regular, always got the same two adjoining suites.

World Superbike and GT for me. F1 needs some fixing. We’ll see if it self-corrects but the last couple years have been just blowouts.

I’m just not an oval track fan. GT races are just neat, especially on stuff like Nurburgring, Laguna Seca, Suzuka, Barcelona or Monaco.

I’m not much of a sports fan but if I have the chance to see a game playing live (like a Mariners or Seattle Sounders game) I will go with friends and have a good time. I have always wanted to see a ballgame in Japan. I have seen video on ballgames there and it looks like it would be a fun crowd experience.
There was an anime series I saw on CrunchyRoll last summer called “Catch me at the Ballpark” which is a slice-of-life anime about a beer vendor. The series was wholesome and fun and makes me want to really go to Japan again and experience a ballgame!

You should! Baseball here is so fun. The beer vendor thing isn’t a joke, it’s a tradition and it’s super charming. Each stadium has a small army of hyperathetic 20-something Uriko who run up and down the aisles with kegs strapped to their backs. It’s perfect. I think the best adjective to describe them is “widely beloved”

They also have ice cream and snacks.

SOLD!
On my last trip there, we caught a show at Shelter in Simokitazawa because of “Bocchi the Rock”. When we go back, I want to go to Ochanomizu again, catch another band at Shelter and now catch a ballgame!

ShimoKita is a cool neighborhood. Gonna be there in a few minutes in fact, it’s on my commute

Daytona, Embry Riddle by chance? I work in Daytona frequently and stay across the street from turn 3 and 4 in the HGI or Hampton Inn.
