That laptop speakers thing

Oh yeah, that would flip my approach too. If I had to bring the PA, I would rather augment that than bring a bass cabinet.

Because the topic came up in this thread I’ll throw in my best value pick for studio monitors. These are ruler flat on frequency response and as transparent as they get. Alone they go down to 54 Hz. (Compared to PA speakers they can produce a lower frequency response since they don’t have to get very loud.) The companion subwoofer goes down to 18 Hz.

I went the other way. I plug my laptop into the aux port on my amp

My bands new setup has v-drums, a 24 port DAI and a headphone adapter (4 port for now, but there are bigger ones or even in ear monitor systems). We can play as long as we want with no acoustic noise but hear each other through the headphones and hear everything perfectly.

Yeah, if I decide to upgrade my DAI, it’s just going to be into a mixer. Many have excellent audio interfaces in them now.

They really don’t have to be pricey. I’m going to shoot for these.

I like those! Let us know how they sound.

Yeah. I’m probably going to upgrade to the Eris 4.5’s.

I have the 4.5s, very happy with them. PreSonus is great, it would probably take me years to drop over $1000 on “pro” monitors.

You do a lot of your own mixing and all that, so that is awesome. For what I do at home since my drummer has a home studio those will be more than enough, and I’m sure they get plenty loud!

Yeah, I have a pair of Alesis Elevate 3’s now and they are really pretty good. You’ll probably be totally happy with the Eris 3’s.

Yeah I’m sure the 3.5s will be more than enough for what you need. The 4.5s were on sale when I got them and I was gently pressured by a Sweetwater sales rep to go for it. Had the 3.5s in my cart though.

Oh I’d prefer a crazy set for sure, just my needs are minimal and the $100 still sound really good.

I’m probably going to get a set of those myself, but I have to devise a way to explain to Sara why I had to spend $100 on speakers. She’s fine with me buying basses and pedals and stuff that I need to satisfy my passion, but how do I explain to a deaf person why I need louder and better quality speakers?

Do you really need them?

Is this a practice question?

They can act in place of the amp speakers and EQ with the track directly from the DAW.

Hah! I just meant if you really need them, you should have an obvious way to explain it.

Yeah, she’ll really comprehend that LOL

Lol…yeah that’s a tough one…just explain it is less steps to record and saves you time?
