You’re on the right track @kerushlow
There you go!
We have some old Klipsch Pro-media 2.1 that need a new sub speaker (Wife has owned them for almost 20 years now…) They worked well for some time, and look sleek. Gonna get a cheap replacement sub driver for now.
I see this thread went from laptop speakers to full blown production monitors really quick
Since it’s already been taken there, I saw recently Ashdown released their own line of monitors… if you have the coin…
No way I’d spend that much on monitors… (Home theater is another story)…
You’d have to be very serious about setting up a studio to spend that kind of money on monitors, not to mention having the right kind of space.
Those $99 ones are about as much as my GAS will sustain.
Yep, told the wife about the $100 ones, but she wasn’t keen on the space they take, so I’m just gonna buy a $30 to $50 replacement speaker for the sub. The speakers still work, but the audio controls are scratchy. I might order some Deoxit and see if I can spray them.
I should just go for a pair of DBR12’s and a mixer now and call it a day. Hang one in each corner of the room.
Volume would never go above 0.1 but that’s cool.
That would be a good choice if you think you’ll use them for gigging. A bit much for home use I think.
Yes, was only joking, as awesome as they would be for Cyberpunk 2077.
If I was buying studio monitors again, I’d go for the Yamaha ones. They seem very good, but aren’t cheap. Not ridiculously expensive though.
I see Yamaha monitors all over the place when watching YouTube channels (even Rick Beato).
I read this whole thread and still don’t know what a DAI is…digital analog input? I was just interested in the laptop speaker thing. So much to learn on this recording/listening to music thing. Much like the pedal discussion. Where can I go to educate myself?
Think of a DAI is just a way to plug your instrument into your computer. There is no guitar jack input on a computer, so it needs something in-between. So you plug your instrument into the DAI and then the DAI into the computer with USB.
Focusrite 2i2 is probably the most popular DAI. I have the Solid State Logic SSL2 and love it though. So you might want to watch some videos about the 2i2 to learn more.
DAI= Digital Audio Interface. In short, it’s a device you plug your signal into that sends it to your computer for you to use on your DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) such as Protools, reaper, Neural DSP…
Some of the people here are much more knowledgeable on this and can get very detailed. Do some searches on YouTube to see some more. Here’s one video I found:
Yeah. I mean I am easy to sell any Yamaha product to, but their monitors look really good for the price.
And when you get your DAW and DAI hooked up, you have a Dawdai.
Have a nice dawdai.
I the dawdai the mean one or the nice one? I get it mixed up with the daidaw.
They are really good. If I would buy new ones it prob would be Yamaha or KRK.
This actually made me Laugh Out Loud for real. Thanks for that
Singing, “All the dawdai long, dawdai, dawdai…”
