The Ugly Duckling/Freak Thread

Other than the super delicate looking pointy bit and the color, I really like this design. Very organic looking.

It does resemble some sort of internal organ, for sure. Not a good look.

Well… it’s a Ritter. So it’s a higher quality bass than almost any of us own (frankly probably including the Foderas).

But it’s a quality bass no one would ever see if I owned it, because damn.

But wait…

Ok hmm. This could be made to work. But it would need to be blood red, and with some veins. And some kind of eye where it wasn’t needed, and maybe teeth. Just go full Skinny Puppy horrorshow with it. Something from the Too Dark Park era.

Ok yeah then it could work.

Eye and purse of the beholder, and all that. I’d rather opt for a Fodera any day of the week and twice on Sundays. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

His instruments are so delightfully weird, and all are one-offs.

Now that’s a neck joint.

That looks good for snow load table 1 for sure.

Hope he doesn’t use a Fender neck truss

to me it looks like a bass with a bad case of pink eye.

I think it gave me pink eye, just looking at it. :flushed:

Gamechanger Audio is so weird. This is definitely a freak, though not a bass. But they are putting it through some of their bass effects

They made a steampunk/cyberpunky analog synthesizer that uses electric motors as oscillators.

Only $4k!

This thing is made for @John_E

The one thing I will never buy from them and only love from afar. Lol

I think I need to go to sleep. One looks to me like roadkill looking at me and the next like the corresponding toon-blood. But what both designs are trying to achieve is actually great.

You could always pair it with another freak, the Linnstrument

https://www.rogerlinndesign.com/linnstrument

It’s a new type of MIDI controller, invented by Roger Linn (the guy who revolutionized drum machines in the '70s with the LinnDrum).

Basically it’s cool but has the one thing I do not want in a MIDI controller - it’s laid out like a bass or guitar, where each button is a semitone. It’s laid out exactly like frets, low to high.

This is the opposite of what I want for something like this (I just want a piano layout) but for people primarily coming from bass it might be cool.

It’s definitely super expressive and has other great features.

Come on @John_E. Rare steampunk electric motor based synthesizer, giant fretboard MIDI controller. Feel the power of the dark side calling!

(You can also get less expensive controllers mapped to the same semitone layout, of course - but the Linnstrument is the collectible cool one. Something like 5000 made so far, small production. Plus, Roger Linn Design.)
