Well, at the time, you were being passive/aggressive as well, and deserved to be called out for it, much like above. In fact your behavior at the time is the whole reason the term “thread turds” now exists

Simple and direct communication is the best way to avoid misunderstanding and ill feelings online. This is why I tend to confront passive/aggression and indirect insinuation directly - it’s best to work these things out in the open. If someone has something to say, they should say it.

I don’t agree with it (I think I have been being pretty consistently up front about this issue the whole time) but I respect him a lot for directly saying what he felt there.
