Thought-provoking songs on life, society, and the world

My team would be called “come undone”, to include a Duran Duran reference here ^^

Moby’s version is solid. But it’s not the best

I am pretty sure have seen him do that live, BTW - but my memory of the evening is… suspect

The best nights are the ones you don’t remember - for whatever reasons ^^

They really verge on being my favorite band. Between them and Joy Division/NO, it’s between trading one set of foundational influences for another. cEvin Key is so damn good.

About Joy Division: have you seen “24 hour party people”? Highly recommended, and much better than “Control” in my opinion - though it was directed by Dutch Anton Corbijn…

Oh absolutely have seen it! The Tony Wilson story. Absolutely great with tons of cameos.

I disagree though about Control. Given whose memoir it was based on, it is nearly perfect, and then becomes 100% perfect when you learn that the actors actually performed all the songs in the movie. The soundtrack is amazing. Also, the actor for Hooky is SPOT ON.

Yeah, no! Control was not for me.

I did buy this though after watching:

(For the younger ones, reading this: it’s a book. Think “tiktok” but not on your phone, but on paper!)

EDIT Sam Riley was great in that movie, but I just couldn’t connect to him. That was different when he played Mark Smith (The Fall!!!) in 24 hour party people-

It was based on Deborah’s autobio. So yes, it had a slant. But the actor choice and depictions were so very very good, and I mean for the love of God, this is amazing:

Knowing the personalities involved, that scene is absolutely perfect. And knowing the actors were actually playing that… OMG

My favorite 24hPP moment was the Howard DeVoto cameo

Ok either that or the Happy Mondays/Bez scene.

Hmmmm … to me the 24 hour party people Curtis was better … but I can relate to the singing part!

I choose the legend too!

So I think the depiction of Ian Curtis in Control was more accurate (which makes sense, it came from his wife). I think the depiction in 24hPP was more entertaining.

The depiction of Tony Wilson, though, was PERFECT in 24hPP.

When I briefly met (and drank) with Rob Gretton and Peter Hook, I would lean in on the Control depictions, but YMMV.

Just watching that again, the Hooky headbutt, every single thing about Rob Gretton (“It’s in my ‘fuck off’ pocket!”), and the depiction of Ian - yeah that’s what I am there to see.

OK, the evening is planned!

This may be sacrilege but I’ve grown so fond of oHgR over the years that I tend to throw one of his / their albums on more than SP nowadays. I miss the old Puppy live shows. It’s a shame he became allergic to something in the fake blood he used to use. I did get to see them in downtown Disney in Anaheim when they were touring for Greater Wrong of the Right. That was a memorable set, and Disney banned them from performing on their property after that.

I really love Control, bias and all. The actors were perfect.

Yeah, his (and cEvin Key’s) side projects were awesome. I really like Cyberaktif, which was Key, Bill Leeb, and Rhys Fulber - that was destined to be awesome.

Totally!
