To my friend @booker_t get well soon

Apparently @booker_t broke his foot kicking some guys a$$, :joy:

No, had a knee surgery today and now at home recovering and planning to get some basses exercises going during this down time. I just want to wish him a speedy recovery.

I’ve had 5 or 6 knee surgeries. I know what you’re going through, or at least have a clue :stuck_out_tongue:

Heal up quickly.

Just as you would learning the bass, take it slow . Set the metronome to 0% speed for awhile and when you can and only when you are comfortable enough start increasing. Take care of yourself @booker_t.

There is a chance I will be seeing @Al1885 this weekend, so he (and a few) knew about the surgery yesterday. I was going to keep it quiet outside of that. I sent him the “leg-wrap” pic yesterday letting him know that the surgery was finished. I was surprised that it was posted, but I appreciate the love he shows and the kindness of you all. Receiving has always been difficult for me. Actually, I don’t retain text messages; but, Al and I were “bass talking” last week and he sent a friendship sentiment message that was so touching, that I still haven’t been able to delete it. As many of you can attest, this forum has developed a lot more than great bass growth between its members. There are only one or two people (maybe 3…or 4) that I have wished lightning or train strikes on.

That being said, I will now offer a photo with a little advice. I am still recovering from the total left replacement almost 3 months ago and yesterday I had the total right knee replaced. 29 pounds (fat, but mostly muscle weight) were lost, after the first surgery, and not by choice. As a “guy” I’d rather have the muscle back even if it meant having the baby bump and side handles. That’s a mental thing I’ll deal with. More germaine is that 5 weeks of complete bass time were lost. Legs matter even when seated; but, I learned a lot from the first procedure that won’t keep me down this time. I offer advice to all of you, stay in motion and stretch to maintain some level of flexibility and fluidity. The arthritis part happens, but the ability to walk normal and to not have pain and stiffness, can be improved. I was always told to stay in motion and stretch, and didn’t do it. Retiring early and, post pandemic, spending most of my time sitting on my ass, not getting back in the gym (or at working out at home), and not staying in motion or stretching changed things in a short time. Believe me, it doesn’t take long. Move. Just, move. I still have hopes of playing in a band or playing with others… I’d like to do it standing and steady. Over the last year I have looked at the photo’s that have been posted of you all bicycling, hiking, skiing, walking at concerts, traveling, and doing construction and home projects. I’ve thought that you’re on to something that you’re probably not even thinking of. Even some lesser activity could be life-changing for the good. Seriously, stay in motion and maintain flexibility the best you can. Do something.

Firstly, I wish you a speedy recovery.
Secondly, I will definitely take your advice to heart. I am feeling things in my body break down as I get older and I don’t like it.

But for real man, I hope these surgeries will help you in the long run and that you’ll be back on your feet soon. Much love my friend!

Please do. All the years of power lifting, especially in your younger days, that you’ve done.

You’re a good man who happens to be one tough son of a bitch. I know you’ll be standing rock-steady when you proudly play one of your pristine basses for the folks you care about.

But in the meantime, let your fingers do the walking (bass line).

Grab an axe and find a new position that challenges you to hold and pluck. As a wise man said: Do something. The bar might be high right now, but the rewards are higher.

Hang in there, brother. And know you’re loved.

When you start your physical, we can do some bike riding. It’s less impact.
