Yeah, well… I just got it (and I will post more in the “Show us your bass” thread soon), but I have to say, it plays very, very well and you can get a lot of different sounds out of it. Very pleasantly surprised so far…

Yeah I was surprised how much I liked the tone with both pickups on mine. It was like a very, very punchy Jazz bass. It still had good mids while having some additional punchy treble from the bridge P. Very cool tone.

That seems to be the sweet spot… the P sound is extra warm, because the pickups are closer to the neck than on a standard P… and then you mix in some of that J punch from the bridge pickup…

Yeah the double P configuration is very versatile and IMO like a much better J-bass sound. Super glad you got one, especially with its pedigree 
It retains the full, mids-happy character of the P while blending in a little of the classic J bridge treble. Very neat tone. Sometimes I regret selling my BB VIII.

Yeah, I agree. It detracts from an otherwise nice looking bass. I don’t care for control plates either.

Anyone know of any manufacturer that makes a leftie with two P pick ups?
I have googled but the amount of BS that it spits out is getting on my nerves.

If there aren’t any: why not make it yourself?
If routing is an issue (it is for me): go to the local luthier and let him route. I have done that and it cost me 40€.
Get two P-PUs like the solderless EMG P or EMG P GZR, and you’re set!
You can get great (and cheap) P-basses from Harley Benton:
Some might prefer to get a 2nd hand bass. Up to you.
If you need to move the existing P pickups, you can also route that - it’s even easier, as the cavity will be behind the pick guard, so you can go wild here - nobody will see it.
You just need a new pick guard. Or modify the existing one (which I did).

My friend, not being able to make a sandwich without adult supervision is a requirement to do just that.
I’m the same (my girlfriend makes my sandwiches out of pity) … and it’s a) easy to ask a luthier to route for you and b) the EMG solderless pickups can be installed like Lego bricks. If you have kids: let them do it
But seriously, it really is very very easy to do!

I’m the same way. There are luthiers I know that can do it for you at a reasonable cost
Gotoh hardware, Curtis Novak pickups, or really whatever you want. Those were my choices. Shoot me a DM if you like

Very kind of you sir, thank you. There’s a decent luthier up the road from me but I’m not sure I want to go down that road. I’d rather something that was purpose built that way. However, I’ll keep you in mind in case I can’t find what I’m looking for.
In fact, I might shoot my friend in Japan an email and see if any of the local custom builders make anything like that. I have a landmark birthday next year and that’s as good a time as any to treat myself.

I missed this part - I don’t have kids. I’d make a dreadful parent, as I’d be the sort of father who was vaguely aware of some short humans in the house.
