Probably, my wife already signed off on the Ultracure bass vi. As soon as I uttered Robert Smith signature model, I think she knew it was a fight she couldn’t win. Maybe someday if I look to step up from my Kiloton, that would be worthwhile. Hell, the MFD at the bridge is how the Kiloton is set up, it would just be adding the P pickup at the neck with the switches to select the pickup. The Kilo also has the series / parallel / single coil toggle.
Sometimes I get bitten for being an early adopter, but I more often than not save money.
When the v3 Fender Rumbles were first released, I bought a 40 and a 200. Along with the 100 and 500, they became so popular so quickly that stock shortages resulted in price increases ($100 extra for the 200, for example).
When the second set of Schecter Banshees (after the awful (IMO) racing stripe finishes) were released, they quickly became hard to find. I found a Carbon Gray for $699, just before the price increased to $799…and stayed there.
I also managed to snag a Sire U5 for $499. To Sire’s credit, even though the U5 has been incredibly popular, the price has only increased about $25.
Part of the increase is due to a stronger yen. I went back to look at my quote for the bass @booker_t has (@MikeC Booker’s was mine to start), and the cost was 132,579JPY, which today is $854, but back in '22, it was under $700.
$1,400 is not a crazy price for the quality of the bass, it’s easily MIA Fender quality. It was way under priced in '22.
