Ultimate Guitar versus Songsterr?

Which is the more accurate site for bass tabs?

I have a Songsterr subscription and it is fairly good but I watch others play songs I’ve learned using Songsterr and they are often played much differently.
What’s the best site for accurate bass tabs?

Free: Songsterr by far in my experience
Paid: pretty close really

Songsterr is IMO has definitely been worth the $10. per month, paid allows you to play along with the video which is far better than the synth mode.
I recommend Songsterr but still seek opinions about ultimate guitar pro.

Ultimate Guitar Pro has really accurate tabs. I have used it for quite a while.

I’m a member of both. When you’re paying for it, both are pretty equal. Both have really crummy tabs and really accurate ones. Sometimes GTP will have ones that Songsterrrrrrr doesn’t and visa versa. I’ve yet to find a song where GTP and Songsterrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr both have a crappy version of a tab I’m looking for.

GTP has a BUNCH of “this has to be a joke” level tabs if you make the mistake of venturing into their non-pro options. On the upside, GTP also tends to at least have the chord progressions of songs if a tab isn’t available where Songste(r x 50)*2 is more along the lines of “if we don’t have it then we don’t have it”.

I don’t know if it’s available without subscription or not, but UG has a “backing track” mode for their Pro tabs that plays what sounds very much like a real instrument backing track vs. the synthesized midi that is default. Sounds a whole lot better. No vocals in this mode though. Tabs have been pretty good, no real complaints. (Other than not having the chord changes show up on the sheet music, and not being able to download the Pro files so I can mess with them in GP.)

I hear a lot of people complain about the midi sounds, wanted to make sure folks realized this was even there.

Another plus for Songsterr is their site design is about 500 times better than UG, which doesn’t really have site design per se.

Agree :100:. I keep both subscriptions for that reason. I figure it’s not extravagant compared to the cost of GAS — it’s about the cost of one pedal per year.

It cost 2 cups of Starbucks coffee a month, surely you can skip 4 cups for 2 subscriptions.

Although I just check out the songsterr, some of the bass tabs are not even close. For example, owner of a lonely heart is not accurate and this one is not either. I’m doing the transcription on King Bozoi

Hey, I can do without a pedal, but hands off my coffee!

The way I figure it… tabs are a crapshoot, paid or not, pro subscription or not.

I go with Songsterr, because that’s what my in-person teacher uses. For the songs I’m playing, I’ve not found a tab on Songsterr that is vastly inaccurate. Most are pretty right on, although sometimes they have some weird fingerings. But the cool thing is that I can modify the tabs on Songsterr, so I just change it as needed.

Unless it’s done by a pro on Fiverr.

I’m unfamiliar with Fiverr. Looks like a generic consulting kinda work-for-hire site. So, I assume you “contract” with a pro to tab out a song for you?

Lol, I think Al was missing a sarcasm tag there. Fiverr is not known for having particularly reliable people selling their “skills”.

Either that or he’s playing a joke off both sites having a double R at the end of the name.

I use Fiverr a few times. During Covid for a few difficult songs then I gave GP8 a try. Then I did a few guitar songs and piano.

More expensive but you get what you paid for.

I started this topic and thanks for the feedback. Here’s what I found and here’s what I figure.
UG gets pretty cheap if you give them your email then close the window then do it two more times to each new discount email they send you., final discount 90%.
Songsterr has easier navigation, and also dark mode.
Most tabs are okay with both, both can have mistakes.
Songsterr may give you the right note in the wrong place.
UG may also.
= Im preferring Songster for ease, feel and look.

Thanks for doing the research!

I also like the Songsterr interface.
As everyone already said, the tabs of everything - even transcriptions issued by publishers - are full of mistakes.
It’s a hard thing, transcribing.

I think going with the one that looks/feels/works best is wise, since you can’t eliminate the mistakes. You can just make them prettier.

I have paid subscriptions for both songster and ultimate guitar for the same reason many do. I cant always find what i am looking for on songster. I prefer the interface of songster, but like the greater selection of songs on ultimate guitar pro.

My musical taste is pretty vast. Songster seems to have mostly rock, which i love, but i also want access to songs that arent your usual bassline requests.

I do enjoiy the fact rhat ulimate fuitar provides chords for most songs, even if they dont have the tabs. It really helps me experiement with building my own basslines.

I put a spell on you.pdf (125.7 KB)

Here’s one I just grabbed off of Songster if you want to check it out.
