Upgrade Day! Anyone Else Upgrading?

I love the image but I’m trying to figure if it has been photoshopped. If you notice his fretting hand thumb is the only finger not covered by a glove. Odd!

Must be AI, cause of the glitches at the headstock. Also the Ninja plays the bass like a guitar. Only Ronin do that!

Yeah think you’re right and no one taught the AI how many frets are sensible on a bass. There are 32 on that bass; serious ninja bass!

Oh it’s definitely AI - by necessity. Ninja bassists are so skilled in stealth, nobody has actually seen one. Audio engineers will just walk in to the studio one day and find that somebody has tracked a bunch of ghost notes.

Brawh, never gonna happen. It’s like me saying I’m done buying more basses.

Yesterday I talked to a luthier that could make me new pickguards. Want one in silver for my “Pink’s Hot” bass (Burgundy Mist - left) and one for my “Ninja” bass (black - right).

Everything (!!!) on the Ninja will be black, everything I’ll change on the Pink’s Hot will be silver (except tuners, unfortunately).

So, new pickguards will cost up to 150€ here. That’s almost what I pay for the bass itself (229€), so I won’t do that.

In a German forum, I saw that people use car foil for pickguards (but also body and headstock). And it looks great!

I know you will do “no more projects”, but this might something for you!?

Did anybody try this already?

This is what it looks like:

Pickguard

EDIT The best brands for car foils are 3M , Avery and Orafol. An A4 size sample costs about 2-5€. You can choose from hundreds of colours and patterns…

Can’t draw a bass, but can wipe us off the planet.
Sounds about right to me.

I am currently playing with my friend’s plasma cutter to make my own stainless steel pickguards for a couple things I want to do.

Everyone needs a friend with a plasma cutter.

Yeah, I was looking into something like that too.
Brushed aluminium would be great for the Pink’s Hot and black anodized aluminium for the Ninja.
But my friends don’t even have nail scissors, let alone a plasma cutter :frowning:

Does it work on safes? Asking for a friend.

Plasma torches are awesome.

I have several friends in to welding, I regret never doing it as I didn’t get in to metalworking until much later and in a really limited way (just polishing and sharpening really). Metalwork is a really useful skill. One friend makes his own tools while working on projects and that’s just awesome.

I did an Engineering BTEC at College in the UK, covered everything from Electrical engineering to CNC machines.

The absolute best part of the entire course was the metal working and learning to arc weld and oxyacetylene weld. So much fun.

In other notes, I really love my new Yamaha, but something about it just wasn’t quite sounding right despite fiddling with the EQ on the bass and the amp.

My boss invited my rugrat and I to go paint balling (I would have joined in but I jacked my back up last week during my workout) and the place just so happened to be in the vicinity of a Guitar Center so I stopped in for an ogle while he had fun. When I saw the Ernie ball strings I remembered that’s what I used to use so picked up some Ernie Ball regular Slinky’s which are a tad higher gauge than the D’Addario’s the yammy comes stock with and restrung it this afternoon.

Ahh! Now it sounds perfect and gorgeous and I am so fricking happy I didn’t keep fighting with the Ibanez. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Same here but now I have someone who can teach me. However, my expectations of my own skills are low, as I’ll never do it enough to get good. But that’s ok, she’s a kickass welder…dines for days. lol.

I love that. A few years ago I built my own coal forge and I built several knives from scratch, including all the forge process and the heat treatments. I also created the designs, no copy at all.

Here are a few examples

More recently I’ve been more into welding, especially core wire welding. My last project has been to re-build a trailer that I got for free in very very bad shape. A lot of welding ! It has been a very instructive project.

Wild! That’s all super cool.

I had every opportunity to get a free education in it and wasted it. Then again I did electronics shop instead so maybe not all bad.
