Upgrade Day! Anyone Else Upgrading?

Not so much upgrading my guitar but my infrastructure. I was getting tired of my janky setup so I’ve been spending the past week redoing it. Before I had an old Mackie mixer running to a Focusrite and it was Mickey Moused to heck and back so that it would work the way I wanted it to. Problem is, in order to have it work and interact with computer like I wanted, it made trying to record anything a pain in the butt. Not to mention it cluttered up my desktop and drove me crazy.

So I got a new interface that mounts to my desk’s built in racks and re-organized the other rack mounted stuff into a way that was more logical to my workflow.

Now I’m tackling the absolute Shelob’s web of cables under my desk. That’s going to take a few days but working with my music is so much more streamlined now.

Side note from a long time IT dude: if you have important hardware, put it on a UPS. It will protect it immeasurably better than a dinky surge protector. It’s worth to $50 to save thousands.

Thanks for posting, Bass specific tuner is of interest. I’ve got a 38 year old Korg GT-60X tuner - still has no issues. They make good stuff.

I haven’t posted these yet but a couple of weeks in and I’m really loving my new Joyo wireless. The base acts like a battery bank and can be used to charge other things too.

I recently got this tuner, and I love love love it! It’s so much faster and more accurate than my old Korg tuner. It’s also much easier to see from a distance. It also picks up all the strings without needing to use harmonics. I always had to use harmonics to tune with the Korg. I haven’t tried it with my 5 string yet, so I don’t know about a low B.

The Korg often wouldn’t get my bass perfectly in tune, so I had to dial it in by ear. This one gets it dead on.

If you’re looking for a tuner or an upgrade, I highly recommend. I went to get this link, and it just happens to be on sale right now.

EDIT: it also has both types of buffer!

Hmmm image didn’t import, so here it is. It’s also very small, which I like.

Polytuner is on my buy list. Looks awesome.

I prefer the Korg tbh, it doesn’t take up a spot on my already busy pedalboard. They’re also small enough that you can keep it in your back pocket when you’re playing.

Peterson Strobostomp. No need for others IMO.

Tuning up the new SBV. Schallers and Gotoh 201B-4 installed; neck satined, frets rocked and polished, fretboard cleaned and now nourishing. Truss rod is fine.

Next up, new strings and full setup; new Gotoh Res-o-Lite tuning machines coming in about a month.

Well that’s wild. I just had a D’Addario NYXL D string rupture while I was loosening the truss rod.

The string clearly had a defect, and the truss wrench probably bumped it or something and pushed it past its breaking point.

This was a normally tuned string, tension was right, and I was loosening, not tightening - clearly a defect.

clearly calls for new strings

I just ordered some TIs today myself

Never seen that happen and I like D’Addario NYXL’s. Maybe contact them and see if they’ll give you a free replacement set? Just curious, was it near the nut where it ruptured?

Same. Yeah it was just past the nut. I just ordered a replacement. The string was new, so yeah I’ll be contacting them.

This was a new string

A a side note. I just restrung/ replaced my strings on my old Charvel last Sunday. The nut has been below spec for measure for sometime but played without issue. Now however, the A string buzzes on the first fret. Need to get the nut replaced. I’m going with a bone nut… will be better then the stock plastic. No one I’m aware of sells direct replacements so I going to a local luthier/tech to get it done.

Are you sure? My Charvel had a Fender neck - they are a Fender brand after all. Worth a look

Thanks but no Fender neck. It’s a Charvel (by Jackson) before Fender bought them in 2002. The nut is similar to contemporary Jackson’s …there nothing I could easily find that match the 41.3 mm/ 1.625 in width and it’s not the typically shape of a Fender-esque slotted nut. GraphTech/Tusq while have one but it would also need to be filed on the ends. I’m content to have the luthier make a custom bone one.

1.625 is like a 70s P bass size - I had a telecaster bass with that nut width. Still just as easy for a luthier to fix

Good thing it wasn’t a G string. That would have been embarrassing.
