Rockbass PreAmp removed
Glockenklang installed.
Everything’s working as it should, but I’ll test it out thoroughly before tidying up the cable runs.

Nice. Love the glock
The new bridge is successfully installed and the setup is done. I had a brief scare due to the A string rattling at the first fret, but I rewound the string lower around the tuning post and that fixed it. Why doesn’t Fender use a string tree on the A string as well as the D & G strings?
They make one as an option, sort of.
Thanks @spidey9! I just added it to my wish list so I can find it again. I could see getting one each for my Mustang and my P Bass.
I kinda like the tortoise pickguards. The one on my cream colored Sandberg really fits
White and cream I think they can work, yeah. I think it is trying to mix them with dark colors, or non-red, when you get in to the Danger Zone.
Disclaimer, this is a pretty long post. I just want to share the building experience with everyone who’s looking to upgrade their pickups and preamp, especially with EMG. There are many different options to choose and this is my first variation. I hope you’ll get something out of this build, I sure learned a lot from it. Enjoy. Feel free to drop me a question or comment.
Ok this one has been in the work since summer when I picked up the body, then the neck. I spoke to Anthony at EMG about the vintage X series precision pickups they have the JVX set but nothing in P. I want the vintage exposed poles look. He said he’ll be working on it over the summer.
Fast forward to last week when the prototype has finished its testing phrase. He made 2 and keeping one for the archive and offer me the other, oh, hell yeah!
This is a very interesting build because the Fender American Deluxe Precision bass offer P pickup and Double Jazz pickup combination, you heard that right, double jazz pickups. The only company that is making double jazz pickup is Delano but they are sealed not exposed pole.
I love the tone profile of the JVX so now with the pvx is available for me it’s a no brainer. Then it’s the logistics of the double Jazz bridge pickup. I have a couple sets of the spare JVX (why buy one when you can get two twice the price, lol) I would take the 2 bridge pickups sand down the inner tabs and glue them together, why not.
Then it’s the electronics option. Since this is going to be a fretless then the bridge pickups would do more heavy lifting instead of running parallel, Anthony suggested that I wired them up separately so I can choose which pickups to use, I did. Wiring both pickups to the ABCX(blend control) then jazz master vol. so my knobs setup would be;
(due to cavity space I have to reconfigure the knobs arrangements)
ABCX for jazz pickups
BTC stacked Bass and Treble control
P master volume
Jazz master volume
Running 18v power.
The lowest jazz is much closer to the bridge as the top pickup is in the traditional position which mean I can summon the extra brightness famously associated with fretless bass.
The neck is USA Tony Franklin no line ebony fingerboard with drop D tuner.
Babicz through body bridge
La belle gold white nylon strings
Transparent pickguard
Translucent green body
That is super super cool! I’m digging the double jazz tones on the lakland at the bridge.
Loving the clear pickguard too!
Have to agree that is super cool. I want one lol.
Definitely is super cool . . .
Great post!
Cheers
Joe
Thanks @John_E I put a lot of thoughts in the preamp config trying to see which one would be the most direct and fun. This is the first run at it. I have a couple of different config in mind I might try that next.
I have a few builds coming up a P, a J and maybe a PJ and definitely some Stratocasters.
Thank you @Jazzbass19
Hey thanks @Wombat-metal it was fun. I was up til the wee hours last night, lol
Wow. That is really cool. You do some great bass builds.
How did you get EMG to make a one off pickup for you?
What happens with the 60 cycle hum? I’m guessing, since those are both bridge pickups, they would be wound the same. So, no hum cancelling?
Well long story short I’m an Emg fanboi. This is just bass pickups I have as spare. I have about 6 sets extra for guitar and as you know I don’t play guitar, lol.
I got to know them and through builds and my custom bass got to really know them. I inquired about the pvx and they said they just about to look into it so there, here we are.
Eeek! Nice collection.
I have EMGs on 3 basses soon to be 4
I am now up to 3 as well.
