I’ll do pictures, but probably tomorrow
This is nothing, man. I blew up my favorite preamp because I blind-plugged it into the 18V out and didn’t notice because it worked… for a while.
I accidentally ordered the wrong tube and am now struggling to sell it, because I spaced on my headphone amp having changed tubes between models. But this is just adding insult to injury as I sold the amp already for a hefty loss, because it turns out I didn’t need it due to my mixer being designed for the headphones I bought the amp for anyway.
I stupidly bought a second Warwick because I couldn’t admit to myself that I didn’t like the first one. (In my defense there were mitigating factors there though.)
etc.
Never, man! Not on a bet.
I realized I missed the thread. So here I come too.
Ray4 is fully upgraded, except tuners, they are fine so far.
I thought so too, but with some weight training and a back brace even a 180 pound guy can do it by himself.
Just picked up my Spector from the local music store after having the preamp replaced with an EMG preamp. Since he was working on it anyway I had him set it up with NYXL strings. It sounds and plays great! My Squier Paranormal Jazz Bass arrived today as well. It’s a good day.
the plate is very probably glued to the pickup during the wax-potting process. if it’s not re-glued, it will possibly create some unwanted noises. you can use hot wax from a candle to glue it back in the flipped position.
The pickup is glued to some foam which is in turn glued to the plate, and the pickup is also grounded to the plate. I was going to move the foam from one side to the other, should probably move the ground but not sure if that matters
That is more then a good day by the looks of it, more like a super basstastic day.
Good for you Joe
The bassist’s dilemma - which one to play?
Nice
That is a quality problem to have.
You are correct sir!
The Paranormal plays like a dream now that I’ve gotten it set up. The quality is top notch. Easily on par with my MIM Mustang.
And replacing the Tone Pump with the EMG preamp made a big difference to the Spector. The midrange control and sweep is a great addition.
Always wanted a Spector. I will live my dreams through you!
I feel my Paranormal is as good quality as any MIM bass I’ve owned. Glad you like it
So far I fail to see the benefit of a MIM over a good Squier.
Not to beat my own chest, cause I’m not, but I’m really pleased. I am expecting to get a set of pots for my Squire this afternoon so I can reinstall the Fralin. The other set of pots ended up in the Tele bass when I tried the Fralin in it before I returned it.
Anyway, I just enlarged the holes in the control plate with my dremel and am ready to go. Really little thing, but I don’t know tools at all. When I started this bass journey never thought I would be doing this stuff on my own
If my cat wasn’t sleeping on the workbench I’d get the pickup in place and snake that wire back through the bend
Cheapest upgrade ever … last week-end I took some time to experiment with various foam types and shapes, for that country fat attack and tone. it makes a great difference, it’s really worth trying different foam density with different basses. It can really change the attack depth and the sustain of the notes.
The foam for Greenie is a bigger block of the yellow one (still the same one, I did not change it). The one for The Duke is yet another foam type, a little bit harder, shaped as a thinner block to be set between the bridge and the pickup.
agree - I have a drawer full of various shapes thicknesses and densities
Have you guys scavenged your foam - or can I go shopping at a fabric store or something to get a variety?
mines are from old chairs and various packagings
some from Home Depot
- weatherstripping
- foam paint brushes
…are my two go-tos
I have tried some foam that comes in packaging, etc as well
