Upgrade Day! Anyone Else Upgrading?

I resemble that remark.

That is one purdy bass, lady. :star_struck:

I love it! Super slim neck and very light weight. I had a customer in the store play it for me so I could hear what it sounded like when it was played by someone who knew what they were doing. Definitely not a thumper, more smooth and buttery.

I thought there was a bit of fret buzz / string noise but my bass teacher says that’s a “technique issue.” Rude.

Yeah, she’s definitely a keeper!

That’s a great bass, @sakkasie . The neck is a two piece maple, split down the length. I have a similar one on my Patriot.

Those two pickups are Peavey superferrites. You’ll find you will need to roll off the tone for many tunes because they’re zingy and hot-hot-hot.

My Patriot has the same one, and it’s the only bass I have ever owned that I play with the taps turned down.

Glad to see you’re still a free man, @T_dub !

Hello all you expert upgraders. I have a question regarding replacing tuning machines:
I need to order a tuning machine for the G string on my Yammie BB735. Being it’s a 5 string, this tuning machine is on the opposite side of the headstock from the other strings, which I believe is the treble side.
Aside from knowing which side of the headstock, and the diameter of the hole, is there anything else I need to know before ordering? Do I need one specific for this bass?
I would’ve ordered from Yamaha, but they’re on 12 week back order.
Any advice will be appreciated.

Unless you want to drill holes you’ll want to measure the mounting screw holes on the old tuner to get the correct spacing. That’s the only thing I can think of that you didn’t mention.

Yeah I thought about that, but on the Hipshot site I didn’t notice that spec even being mentioned.

I just checked their site. You need to click on the dimensions pdf.

Did you check yamaha24x7.com?

Yeah Hipshot has everything specced very well.

I’d recommend ordering a complete set of new tuners so they match, but YMMV. Definitely measure them first.

quick question:

What’s actually wrong with the tuning machine?

Yes, they’re on back order like i said.

All open gear tuners are easily reversible, so it really doesn’t matter what side you get

I have gotten a whole set of 4 treble side, or Left hand and reversed all of them because on Amazon the set was less then half of the Bass side / right hand.

not true sir.
Hipshots recently went to reversables.
Their previous generation were not, and old inventory is floating around (they never changed model or SKU numbers so they both appear as the same damn thing in people’s stocks.
I might have learned this the hard way.

Thanks for the clarification.
Never knew that about hipshot

The FGN is back!

When I swapped the pickups, from royal cheeses to PV 63s, I put my set om TI flats on. When I first got this strings, I put them on a bass and had really strange harmonics. I took them off, and put them on the FGN and they sounded fine, but after a week the strange harmonics were back, so today I put D’A Chrome Flats on and they sound great.

We’ll see how they wear, but the chrome flats have nice mids but are still warm. What a great bass. I don’t know why double Ps aren’t more of a thing.

The D’A Chrome flats on my Cutlass sound good, but I’m can’t get past how they feel. It’s a flats thing.

Strings side note: I played my Sire M5 today, and the SIT rounds on it feel great! They’re the smoothest rounds I’ve ever played. I really like them. Gotta order more.
