Warwick Streamer V Corvette

Thought I’d post on here and ask if anyone has any input on my situation. I’m looking at getting either a 5 string Corvette basic which is bubinga and jazz pickups and the 3 knob preamp. OR a 5 string streamer lx bolt on with the jazz pickups and essentially the same preamp. Tonally I’d like to know how similar they are. I like both body shapes and have owned the rock bass passive version of both but am torn on which one would be the better choice.

I’m definitely partial to the Corvette plus the Streamer is kinda Spector-ish, :joy:

My most favorite Warwick has to be the Dolphin though.

The only Jazz config Warwick I tried is the Katana and it’s very good.

My last corvette was the double buck and the streamer was a standard with the soap bars. For some reason I’ve never had a jazz Warwick and to me the thumb is the wick tone in a nutshell and that’s what are on the thumbs

Well now we are talking. The Twin Jazz slanted seems to be the most iconic but I’ve seen thumb with just about every config. HS, double soapbar twin Jazz and standard Jazz.

From here on out, any time anyone wants to know about a bass, just ask @Al1885 what he thinks of his. Cuz you know he’s gonna have one!:rofl::rofl:

Hoarding basses is an illness but I don’t want to be well. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I’m certainly not well,

One? That’s the understatement of the year.

That’s my Buddhist side right? Zen One of everything, oh wait! or One with everything,

I’ve owned both this and a Streamer LX4.

I love the look but the Streamer body shape just does not work for me.

Also it’s a very minor detail but IMO Warwick manages to make by far the worst strings you can buy. You probably already know this though. In any case, if the thing comes with Warwick Reds, change them ASAP.

Yeah, they sound ok but feel horrible.

I’ve tried the black and red labels. Black feels ok but sounds pretty pedestrian. They were ok but scooped mids and nothing really jumping out at you tonally. Reds feel a little bit rougher and have better bite and mids but still nothing great compared to all the other strings out there. Warwick makes amazing basses so for that I can forgive the bad strings.

If I ever get another one it’s likely a double-buck ‘vette. They fit me better than the streamers.

I had it but was thinking that the jazz pickups would be more articulate than the humbuckers. That low end was amazing but I wanted more finesse in the mids which is why I eventually sold it. I’m looking at a German standard 5 and it looks more like what I should have been looking for when I bought the double buck.

MEC generally are excellent pickups across the board, both the gold and silver ones. My thing is I just don’t like J pickups

I’m not a huge jazz bass fan but I’m not a fender fan in general. However I do like the thumb tone and the streamer tone on the early incubus albums are beautiful. Throw in some 311 with his special jazzman setup it’s a beast too. I know the stage 2 was used on incubus and I love his tone. Those are jazz style pickups. The thumb is jazz style too.

Yeah Kiyoshi uses a Streamer Stage 2 as well and sounds great. Then again, like P-Nut, she’s a slap player. J’s work well for slap.

I am… not a slapper

Honestly I’m not either even though I adore little kiyoshi and her idol Les Claypool. But I do fall more into the category of really trying to bring my playing into the forefront. I always looked up to Geddy Lee of rush, Les Claypool, Ryan Martinie of mudvayne among others. Dirk Lance of incubus absolutely. I like busy playing and ballsy tone. But I kinda started this thread because I wanted to get an idea if I can get a streamer or a corvette with essentially the same pickups and preamp to sound more like a thumb. I’m not trying to replicate but I’m curious to which of the 2 gets closer to the thumb tone when you’re favoring the bridge pickup. That’s probably the bass I want most. The double buck corvette I had got a similar to thumb tone but always was very bass heavy no matter what I tried. Beautiful tone on its own but not exactly what I was going for. I wanted more bite and rear pickup punch but naturally the bass wanted to sound more open and thick growls which I like but i wanted it in the background not the foreground.

Hope you don’t mind me jumping in here but I’m currently debating the same topic as I seek to upgrade to a 5-string and broaden my bass horizons.

I need to actually go to a shop and try a Streamer and a Corvette to see what I like in terms of sound and feel, but generally, what are the noticeable differences between them? The Rockbass Corvette Basic and Streamer Standard are pretty much the only two readily available in Australia in my price range and other than the body shape, the main difference seems to be Active J/J pickups vs Passive Humbuckers.
