It’s just such an iconic track! I still remember sitting up late at night browsing YouTube for new music, after a long raid night on WOW, bit drunk and very stoned and this got recommended. I read reviews in my favorite metal when it got released, but never checked it out, since back then, stoner was nothing for this badass Black/Thrash head. 15 years later, I was so overwhelmed by the rawness and just how crushing their sound is. I had my headphones on, fairly loud, and when the bass dropped, it nearly blew my brains out.
Starting the morning with a rate find I found in my travels this week. @howard
ooh very nice
I’ve been jamming the latest Royal Blood album. Here’s one I especially like: Mountains At Midnight
A band that describes themselves as fluffy metal did a quick internet concert last night. A good cover of SOAD’s Sugar at 9 minutes
That’s Haraguchi-san on her Red Sadowsky
One more day.
Been 4 years since they last came around.
Song is about going to your first metal concert. Hedoban = headbang
The mic stand is a shout out to Freddie
The collapse at the end is a shout out to X-Japan (who used to play until Yoshiki collapsed behind his drums)
One of the longest running stadium rock/metal bands in Japan. Actually just released a single. Active since 1982.
Here’s a short clip Babymetal posted of the concert, which was amazing. Of note I think the sound is from the in-ears of one of them, my guess Momoko and Moa as Su would need to hear her voice more.
It was a good crowd. The concert opened with Jason Richardson, an man and his laptop, shredding guitar to backing tracks. He was really good, would have been better with a band.
Then we got Dethklok, who were also good, but… The content was very violent, sex driven, and drug use, no criticism on any of that, but Babymetal has a wide audience, and there were a lot of kids 8-10 with parents, and preteens and teens, and a mix of all ages. 40% were women. They have the oddest collection of demographics as fans.
Kudos to Dethklok for an amazing performance, frowny face to the guy who paired the two bands together. Terrible fit.
Babymetal was amazing. They were so happy - you could see the girls were having so much fun as they threw in extra expressions all show. It was like a different band (than 2019) they were so effervescent. While brutal.
They are using American musicians this tour, and have all year in Japan, Europe, and Asia. The Japanese musicians are more technical and nuanced, the American ones are more aggressive and heavier. I’ve seen both incarnations and it’s great either way, but they were so brutal this time around.
As brutal as Dethklok was, Babymetal was far heavier, they go so much harder in person than in recordings. Su and Moa retired in 2021 with no intention of coming back, but they hung out and before they knew it they were dancing together, and decided to have a rebirth. So glad they did, and they are so happy these days it really shows.
Metali from the show I went to. I wonder why they didn’t include Momoko’s “are you ready” in the studio recording
Su’s arms are so bendy
i’ve always loved this band but i hadn’t ever seen the video for this song until a week ago. and it’s perfect
hahaha yessssss
The copycats, a new group called Metalverse made it’s debut at Summer Sonic (using Babymetal’s band)
The OG
Pop. And anti-pop.
So do they merge and become The Neutrinos?
